Sort of nice!flash

Peter inhaled and exhaled deeply, drowning himself in nervousness. His bitten down fingernails rapped against the microphone that he clutched in his hands, and with closed eyes, he ran over the lyrics in his head. He didn't necessarily want to do the talent show, but the school said it was mandatory for seniors and juniors. The bright side to this though was the prize, five thousands dollars was to be won, and that would without a doubt help Aunt May immensely.

Peter wasn't going to lie to himself, he knew he could sing pretty well. May always loved to hear Peter's voice, especially whenever he would sing. Sometimes when she came home from work, she could hear his voice stream from the door, and to not disrupt him she would stand outside the door with a smile on her face, simply listening to the melodic song.

"Yo, what up, Parker?" Flash said as he barrelled past other contestants. "Good luck out there, man. . . But don't get your hopes up. I practised a lot for this shit show. Like my mom always said, if you have to do something, do it right. Anyways, you go out there, do your best, get that money for your Aunt May and make Ben proud, okay?" He clapped Peter by the neck a little lighter than he usually would, causing a twitch to form in the corner of the former bully's mouth. It was no secret that Flash was trying to rapidly change his ways for whatever reason, so the senior always tried to be nicer to the junior.

Flash turned and walked away, humming a tune under his breath, leaving Peter alone with his microphone and smiling at Flash's words. Make Uncle Ben proud. Peter wasn't sure who was going to be in the audience, except May. But that didn't matter too much to him, he was just going to sing his heart out, for Uncle Ben.

His heart resumed hammering against his ribs as the announcer called the teen up to the stage along with his song choice. Peter tightened his hold on the microphone, if that was even possible, and started to walk up to the centre of the stage. The blinding lights shone in his eyes, practically diminishing his sight. Peter took in another deep breath before lifting up the mic to just below his chin.

"Hello. My name's Peter and I'm dedicating this song to my Uncle, Ben." The crowd cheered with encouragement, like they did for every student, and eventually the instrumental began. Peter blinked into the crowd, opened his mouth and began singing.

"It's been a long day,
Without you my friend.
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again.
We've come a long way from where we began,
Oh I'll tell you all about it when I see you again.
When I see you again." The crowd cheered at his soft voice echoing against the walls. Peter smiled softly, convincing himself that Ben was watching somehow somewhere.

"Damn who knew all the planes we flew,
All the things we've been through
That I'll be standing right here talking to you about another path,
I know we'd love to hit the road and laugh,
But something told me that it wouldn't last,
Had to switch up, look at things different, see the bigger picture.
Those were the days, hard work forever pays,
Now I'll see you in a better place." Peter rapped with a shocking flow, moving his arms to the beat with natural gestures, unwillingly getting the entire audience involved by clapping along to the beat.

Everyone knew about Uncle Ben. He wasn't famous or anything, people just knew him by how good of a man he was. Every parent had at least one conversation with the wise man and every parent could happily say that they quickly befriended the man. When he died, it shocked the whole school into silence. The unimaginable pain that Peter went through was shown in his performance, and tears formed in many eyes in the audience at the powerful sentences. It made so much sense, the words fitted his relationship with his uncle so perfectly, it was like the song was made for him.
