"You are in so much trouble young man!"The Avengers, who were now regrouped and still earning the trust of everyone else, turned to look at each other with confused expressions. The reoccurring thought that seemed to be way to frequent to be normal at this point was what the fuck? The trademark voice of Tony sounded from the halls, a squeakier voice came soon after.
"I don't care," the unknown voice said back in an obviously upset tone that contradicted his statement.
"Don't sass me, kid. We both know who would win in an instant." Tony snapped back.
"You can't tell me what to do. You're not my dad." The reply was instant. The avengers turned to each other, wondering if they should investigate, however they knew Tony would get really mad if they did as he hated when they eavesdropped on his conversations.
"No, I sure as hell am not. I don't need to be your father to tell you to not speak to me like that." Tony's voice returned, seemingly unfazed to anyone who didn't know Tony. But the long experience of dealing with the hidden emotions behind the unmoving face of the billionaire, the team knew that he sounded upset
"Well, stop trying to act like it, okay? What I do is none of your business-" The high pitched voice snarked back, but his tone only rising every time he had found a gap to speak.
"No, it's not okay. You are my business. You wear my suit, you follow my rules. That's the deal." Tony was now raising his voice, affectively causing the team to flinch. Tony was usually a collected man, with his emotions steady, or rather hidden. He rarely raised his voice and usually rested in sarcastic smiles and harsh comebacks. Hearing him shout made the team want to flinch.
"Mister Stark, I didn't break any of your stupid rules." The team seriously wanted to know who this myseterious kid was.
"What the fuck was that downtown with the collapsed bridge?"
"My hand slipped-"
"See kid? This is what I mean about you being irresponsible. Own up, admit what you did was stupid and now you're grounded."
"What the fuck? Are you trying to say you didn't want me to save all of those lives?"
"First of all, don't swear. Second, I'm glad you saved all of those lives, but you wouldn't have had to if you had just shut the fuck up once in a while!" There was a painful silence.
"Fuck you!" The kid finally shouted, his voice breaking and wavering. There were loud footsteps that followed, and soon the steps stopped, a loud door slam and then silence.
Seconds later, the billionaire who had just upset whoever that person was walked in, obviously fuming with rage. He collapsed onto with his usual dramatics and curled up next to his best friend, sighing into Rhodey's side where his face happened to be pressing into.
(Yall can fite me but image omg how cute)
"Christ, Tones," said Rhodey, parting the top of Tony's head like a dog, the only one who seemed to have his voice. "Did the kid really screw up that bad that you had to have a screaming match with him?"
"No, I don't- look- he just, I don't know man," Tony groaned loudly. It seemed to the rest of the team that they were being completely ignored at this point. "I just worry for him, you know? He totally disregards his own safety. He thinks he's invincible. He thinks no one can hurt him. And it's just killing me, Rhodes. I love him so much, I can't lose him"
"Welcome to my world," his friend joked. Tony lazily swatted him. "Listen Tones. I get that you're worried for him, but you can't keep him wrapped in bubble wrap forever. He's a rebellious kid, and you know it.
