JON
I feel more nervous than I have in my entire life. That's mostly because I'm on my way over to Joseph and Payton's party. I wasn't exactly sure in what to get them so I played it safe and got them a $500 gift card to Target.
When I pulled up to their house, I got out and took in a deep breath and let it out to try and help calm my nerves down. I was going to see Evangeline today and I haven't spoken nor have I seen her in a long time. What if she moved on and Joseph and Payton made all of this up just cause they wanted to see us back together? Then again, why would they do that. Damnit, I'm overthinking everything. I just need to stop and just enjoy myself and let whatever happen, happen.
I could hear everybody in the backyard talking and laughing, along with some music and the smoke coming off from the grill. So I just went through the side gate to join all of them.
When I walked into the backyard, I saw a lot of people standing around while some were sitting and others were swimming in the pool. Although I was of course here for Payton and Joseph I was REALLY here mainly for Evangeline, but I can't seem to find her. Maybe she decided not to come.
I'm suddenly taken out of my thought process as I hear Joseph call out my name.
"It's about time your ass shows up!" He states while turning around from the grill to hug me.
"Yeah, sorry." I laugh.
"It's all good. You're here now." He smiles.
He then turns back around to flip some of the burger patties and hot dogs while I start walking around saying hi to everyone, including Wendi and the rest of the guys. Then I catch up with Payton and hand her the gift card as she gives me a hug and thanks me for it.
"Hey, can I have you do me a favor and grab a couple bottles of wine in the wine cellar please? We're running low." She tells me.
"Are you drinking?" I asked her.
"I'm not an idiot, ass." She slaps me on the shoulder. "It's for the guests dumb ass." She says.
"Alright." I put my hands up in surrender. "I'll be right back." I chuckle.
"Be careful, my hormones make me strong enough to kick your ass." She sticks her tongue out at me before walking over to who I'm assuming are her parents while I make my way into the house and head downstairs into the wine cellar.
While making my way downstairs, I notice Evangeline looking at all the bottles trying to pick one out and I notice her reaching for one but can't get it so I walk over towards her and grab the bottle for her.
"Thanks." She says as she turns and looks at me with a surprised look on her face.
I smile at her still feeling a little nervous.
"Hey." I say.
"Hi." She replies.
"How are you?" I ask.
"Fine. You?" She asks.
"I'm okay." I reply.
We both begin sharing a brief moment of silence before she breaks it.
"You look good."
"You too." I reply.
She looks just as nervous as I do while she begins to lightly bite her lower lip a little bit nervously.
"Well, I better get back." She says and starts to walk around me towards the stairs although I feel like she wants to tell me something else.
"Wait." I stop her by grabbing her free hand.
It takes her a moment before she turns back around to face me.
"I'm sorry. I thought I could do this but, it's harder than I expected." She begins.
"I know. I was nervous coming here to but, I'm so glad I did." I tell her.
She looks at me and smirks.
"Why did you do it?" She asks with some tears beginning to form in her eyes as she looks at me still. "Why did you leave?"
"Because I thought it was the best thing for everyone at the time. I thought I had put you all through so much, especially you and then after you told me what you said the night before, I thought you would never forgive me." I look away from her as I remove my grip from her hand.
"I guess that I should have not said what I did. But when you left, I just....I felt like you didn't want me anymore and that you wanted to give up. I thought that you left because I upset you so much." She began.
"Oh Evangeline, never." I try and tell her. "It wasn't you, it was me."
I walk closer towards her and cup her face while wiping a tear from her cheek with my thumb. She closes her eyes and seems to enjoy my touch before opening her eyes up and stepping on one step up.
"I'm sorry, I can't do this right now." She says and quickly turns around and heads back upstairs.
I swear that I had this playing differently in my head. In fact, I'm not going to do it again and let her walk out of my life. So I start making my way up the stairs to catch up with her.
I get to her before she walks out of the kitchen and grab her arm and then turn her around to look at me.
"Evangeline, please just listen to me." I try and beg.
"I..." She began while trying to fight back tears at the same time.
"Don't say anything, just listen. I love you. I know I messed up in leaving and believe me, I've been regretting that day ever since. I never should have left you and I promise that if you give me one last chance to try and make it up to you, I will love you like no one else has. I will never leave you again. Even if you push me away, I won't leave. I want to grow old with you and have you tell me when I'm being an asshole." I chuckle a little as does she. I then start cupping the side of her face again and look into her eyes.
"I know I put you through a lot and that I may not deserve another chance or even your love. But I am not going to let you go another day without knowing how much I love you."
She looks at me for a moment longer and closes her eyes and then opens them again and the next thing I feel are both her hands touch the back of my neck and then our foreheads touching each other's.
"I love you so much." She tells me and my heart starts racing.
We both begin to start kissing one another and we get so caught up in it that we forget about heading outside. That's when we hear Payton and Joseph.
"It's about time you both grew up." Payton says.
"Yeah, took you guys long enough." Joseph chuckles.
Evangeline and I both looked at each other and smiled before we headed outside after them and enjoyed the rest of the party together.
