EVANGELINE

After dancing through a few songs, I feel too tired and decide to head back to the beach house while Joseph and Payton stayed at the club.

On my way out, I noticed at the bar, Jon laughing with a beautiful young woman who looked to be around my age. I felt a stabbing pain in my heart. I guess maybe this was just a Summer fling. I see now why he blew me off. I quickly continued making my way out the door and called an Uber to come pick me up.

Once Uber came and dropped me off at the beach house, I carried my heels in one hand as I walked up towards the door. Before walking inside, I took one look at the dark beach house next to us and could tell nobody was home so I just went into my room and plopped on the bed before falling asleep.

I woke up late the next morning and looked at my phone and saw I had a couple of missed texts. One of them from Payton to let me know she was staying with Joseph and would see me later. Then the rest of the texts were from Jon.

JON:  Hey, sorry I didn't text you earlier, want to watch a movie and order in tonight?

JON:   I miss you

JON:   I hope you're not mad at me.

Looking at the messages, I saw that he sent them last night after I left for the club and when I called for an Uber last night, I ignored all of them, still upset with him and then turned off my phone and charged it as soon as I got back to the house.

While going back and forth in my head if rather or not I should text him back as I begin thinking that maybe I overreacted. Then before I'm able to decide, a text message from him pops up on my phone.

JON:  Good morning beautiful! ;) Can I see you?

I think about it for a minute before replying and then decide that I'm not ready to see him. I can't stop thinking about seeing him with that girl last night.

ME:   Maybe you should spend the rest of your Summer with that girl you seemed to be
having a great time with at the club last night.

I don't even know why I should even care. It's not like what we had was anything more than a fling. At least that's what I think now.

I place my phone down on the inn table and then take a quick shower and decide I'm gonna head out by the water and lay out in the sun and read some stories on Wattpad.

So I pack some snacks, my portable charger and cell then headed out. It seemed really busy but luckily I was able to find a great spot that wasn't too far from the beach house and wasn't too close to the water to where I would get wet.

After laying down my towel and laying down, I put in my earbuds on my MP3 player and began listening to some music.

I got onto Wattpad and began reading a story and about ten minutes into my reading, I get another text from Jon.

JON:   You mean my cousin? If you want, you can meet her and see for yourself.

ME:   Wow! Really?! You're gonna use that whole 'cousin' thing on me? If you're gonna lie

then the least you can do is google something that would actually make sense and

not have been used so many times as a pathetic excuse for ditching someone.

I felt really frustrated. Why can't he just leave me the hell alone?

I didn't look at my phone for the next couple of hours and in fact put it on vibrate while I finished listening to music and laying in the sun.

Then I got up and started making my way back towards the beach house and noticed while looking down to see if Payton had messaged me in which she did telling me that her and Joseph went to the store to get a few things for the barbecue we were having at our place. I noticed too that Jon messaged me again but I'm still going to ignore him. I'm not going to let him ruin my Summer vacation.

So I head inside the house and make my way upstairs to get ready for this barbecue that's gonna be bad, I can tell. I bet he's gonna bring her over here too.

After finished with getting ready, I headed downstairs to help Payton put together some side dishes while Joseph and a few of his friends and girls they brought over with them were outside hanging out and grilling. Jon wasn't here yet.

Right when I thought he wasn't coming over, I see the front door opening up and in walked him, the girl from the bar and then his friend, Mick. Why is Mick and that girl all over each other? Oh my god, was he telling me the truth?

He looks at me and smiles. I don't know how to react. Am I right? Or am I just overthinking things again?

"Hi, I'm Wendi." My attention gets interrupted from the girl's voice.

I look over at her and she chuckles.

"Hi." I tell her as I notice how beautiful she looks.

"I'm Wendi, Jon's cousin." She says as she holds out her hand.

I look at Jon and then back at her feeling relieved and start shaking her hand.

"It's nice to meet you." She says.

"Yeah." Was all I could say, still not sure if I was believing this or if she was put up to this.

"What you saw last night at the club, I was telling Jon a joke that Mick had told me before he left to go to the bathroom." She chuckles as she looks at Mick.

"It's a little dirty but it's really funny." Mick says.

"Maybe some other time guys." I hear Jon say while not taking his eyes off of me.

"Alright alright. Well, we're gonna head out and hang out with everyone." He says and they both leave.

"It was nice meeting you." Wendi smiled back at me.

"You too." I tell her before looking back at Jon who has a guilty look on his face and has both his hands in his pockets.

"Can we talk?" He asks me.

I nod in agreement.
