CHAPTER 24: Don't Be A Hero

I've never been more nervous than I am right now. Probably because I have more to lose right now. 

When we arrive at the party, we all walked inside with Evangeline's arm looped through mine, while Payton's was through Joseph's arm as well. While walking inside, I right away had my friends, including Wendi and Payton, to start splitting up and looking around to see if we can find Rudolph but most importantly, her father. 

First, we try and blend in with everyone. So Evangeline and I begin walking up towards the bartender and order some champagne and as we stand there, looking around, I can't stop looking at how radiant and beautiful she looks with her hair twisted up in a french twist, minimal makeup and her dress, my god, I love how it hugs every curve. 

I can't take it anymore, I think to myself as I down the rest of my champagne and set my glass down and then hold out my hand. She looks at me and smiles and takes my hand while I take her out onto the dance floor and I place one of her hands in mine while her other hand is on my shoulder as I put my arm around her waist and pull her closer towards me as we start slowly dancing. 

"You look amazing tonight." I comment. 

"So do you." she smiles while biting on her lower lips a little bit. 

"I want to thank you." I begin. "For not only doing this but for staying with me after finding out I was, well, you know." I chuckle. 

"I have to admit that at first it was hard to believe but the truth is that after I realized you were telling me the truth, I became even more scared because I had already felt something towards you and the last thing I wanted was to lose you." She admits.

I cup her face and have her look into my eyes. 

"Baby, as long as you want me the same as I want you, that's all that matters and I will always come back to you." I assure her. 

We both begin to kiss and then I feel a tap on my shoulder and from the look on Evangeline's face as she looks behind me, I know who it is because there's only one person that could put that look of fear on her face.......Rudolph. 

"May I cut in?" He asks while grinning at her. 

I want to punch him in the throat before I continue torturing him. However, instead, we are here on a mission. So I look over at Evangeline and she let's me know it's okay. I then take a step aside and watch them both dance while I watch them from afar standing at the bar and ordering a stronger drink. 

I watch for a few moments later until I see him lean in closer to Evangeline and tells her something in her ear, causing her forced smile to immediately drop and then I see her walk off through the crowd, I follow after her. 

I notice her walking into the bathroom and I wait outside until she comes out, that is until I notice Rudolph off in the distance look around before walking upstairs.

Of course, I should probably wait for Evangeline, however, I also know that I need to see if her father is upstairs. 

I make my way up the stairs making sure I keep a good distance between me and Rudolph. When I get to the top of the stairs, I look to my left and notice there's a hallway down in that direction as well as on the right. 

I'm not sure which way he went but something is telling me to head down the right hallway and the fourth door down, I stop in front of after I can hear some mumbling and movement inside. I take out my gun and get ready for in case Rudolph is in there. 

I slowly begin opening the door and peek my head inside and look around until I see off in the corner is Mr. Keaton tied-up in a chair. 

"Oh my god." I tell him as I make my way over towards him and rip off the duct tape over his mouth off and then start trying to cut off the duct tape around his legs and wrists. "Are you alright?" I ask him. 

"Yes. But you have to leave here." He says tired. 

"No, I'm hear to take down Rudolph." I assure him. 

"Is that so?" We hear Rudolph behind us say. 

I start to reach for my gun that I set down beside me but I hear a gun cock from behind me. 

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." He says. 

I slowly begin turning to look at him and see that one of his men are gripping onto her arm with a gun pointed at the side of her head. 

"Rudolph..." I began.

"Don't even try to be the hero, because we all know how that ends." He says, pointing his gun at me.
