CHAPTER 23: Stay Focused

I can't believe that she suggested we go and rescue her dad while going against Rudolph. She's risking a lot and I'm still not entirely sure she fully understands what she has just agreed to do. Then again on the other hand, Zed and I do need the help and luckily my friends and Payton have agreed to learn what all they need to. 

It has been only a few days since we started training and I was surprised after being shown by everyone that they've all had some sort of training in fighting and self defense in their lives, including Evangeline. So even though they weren't at the level of fighting as spies are supposed to be at, they're still good enough to where they could most likely handle themselves. 

We have had to cram in all this intensity of training and go over a plan and everything was going great. Tonight though, happened to be the night where Rudolph was throwing a huge party and was planning on having an 'auction' if you will. 

I always get a little nervous before any mission or assignment but this one in particular, this one involved people I loved and cared about so much who aren't spies and wouldn't know what to do if I had lost anyone of them. Evangeline especially. 

Zed walked in through the front door carrying several bags after being gone all day long and handed us all a bag each. 

"Here. You all need something to wear tonight so I hope these fit and that you all like them." He says to us before turning around and heading upstairs. "I'm going to go upstairs and take a nap before getting ready tonight. I suggest you all do the same as well." He tells us and continues heading up to his room. 

A few hours went by and we all got ready. The men wore black and white tuxedos while me, Payton and Wendi all wore beautiful dresses. My dress was ankle length, was deep blue, sleeveless and showed off my curves in as well as had a thigh-high slit. Payton's and Wendi's dress was a little above the knees. Payton's was black and Wendi's was a deep red. We got to where the most expensive jewelry you could ever dream of wearing and we did each other's makeup and hair as well. 

"You know, Jon is a very lucky man." Wendi tells me as she looks at me through the mirror. "I just want you to know that your father is very brave and will be very proud when he see's you." She smiles at me then turns around and puts earrings on herself. 

"Thank you." I smile at her. "What about your father? Was he a spy as well?" 

"No. He wasn't. I wish my father was like that but, unfortunately he chose a life of crime and drugs over being with me and my mom. I haven't seen him since I was seven years old." She says. 

"I'm sorry." I tell her feeling really bad. 

"It's no big deal. I became a spy and found out about your dad and oddly enough, he was a father type figure that I looked up to. Even though I never met him." She chuckles to herself. 

"Well, if it means anything to you, I think you turned out great and pretty bad ass if you ask me." I smile at her. 

"Thanks." she smiles while wiping a tear from her eyes. 

Somebody then knocks on the door. 

"Are you ladies ready yet?" We hear Joseph ask. 

"We'll be down in a few." Payton calls out from the bathroom. "I swear, men have no idea in what it takes to get all dolled up." She laughs. 

We hurry and finish up then make our way downstairs to where we see all the guys standing around looking sharp and handsome as they look up at us and smile. 

"You ladies look amazing." Jon compliments, making me blush. 

"You guys clean up nice yourselves." Payton says.

"Alright, so here are all of your guys' invitations. Remember, we aren't there to have fun, so blend but make sure that you stay focused and not make the real reason we are there obvious." Zed reminds us all as he hands us the invitations. 

I honestly am terrified deep down inside because I'm not sure in what's going to happen. Then again, I have to keep in mind that I need to save my father. Even if that means I might have to see Rudolph Balk.
