I'M GONNA SAY ITHAMILTON (the musical) WOULD'BE BEEN KINDA BETTER IF THE ANGELICA ROMANTIC SUBPLOT WAS REPLACED WITH A LAMS ROMANTIC SUBPLOT AND HERE'S WHY!
First of all, the Hamgelica subplot doesn't really serve any purpose??? It doesn't drive the plot forward in any way aside from providing drama. Plus, let's be honest, a forbidden gay war romance would've been way more interesting than the stereotypical straight family affair we've already seen a thousand times before.
Second: Laurens' Interlude. We've all heard it, most of us have cried because of it, but the thing is it comes kinda abruptly?? The purpose of Laurens' Interlude is to trigger Alexander's descend into workaholic madness, which is why it's right before Non-Stop. But because Laurens in the musical is pretty much just another friend the effect his death has doesn't really add up. If there had been a John centric romantic subplot a) John's death would've had a way bigger impact on the audience and b) Alexander's reaction would've made way more sense which would've helped drive the plot forward.
Also if Lin had left that one sentence in Hurricane about John + made Lams be the romantic subplot that would've made x10 emotional impact in the audience.
And Angelica would've been a little more likable tbh, because that subplot made her character inconsistent af.
It also would've made it even angstier when Alexander was doing politics alone.
That's it, I'm done. Sorry Angie, you're great and I love you and Satisfied can slay me but that subplot's just eh.
