Beyond The Realms

Chapter 32

When I enter the stable and see the lovely creature a squeal of pure delight leaves me
" Oh my God ! It's a unicorn !"

It is pearly white with a little horn on top of its head and has a small body with tiny wings on either side that are as gracefully ethereal as it is beautiful. I walk closer to touch the little creature before me but it hurriedly darts away behind the bundles of hay peeking out with its wonderful big eyes rimmed with long lashes.

" It's a foal , I'm afraid it's too shy " Khsjc says
" I thought after all the burdening details of the kingdom you would like to spent sometime with the little one here "

" I would love to " I say grinning at him " Thank you , Khsjc " I mean it from the bottom of my heart . after all that intimidating business and weariness this is an absolute delight .

" Won't I be able to touch him ?" I say longingly looking at the lovely little foal.

Khsjc grins " Sure if you agree to feed him this " from a gunny bag he pulls out an apple and hands it to me "Unicorns love apples "

" Thank you " I say again taking the fruit from him and hold it out to the foal .

For a long while it stands still behind the hay rolls and just when I'm beginning wonder if it will ever approach me it tentatively moves away from behind the hay and slowly advances in my direction.

" Make sure you feed the apple with your hand and don't drop it to the floor " Khsjc whispers beside me afraid any loud voice might send the little unicorn running away " It helps built trust "

It takes a while for the shy little guy to reach me and then sniffing the apple it takes a little bite .

Then suddenly as if deciding I'm not dangerous after all he starts hurriedly gobbling it up , I laugh .

" Seems like it trusts you now " Khsjc says with a smile as I raise my other hand making it clear to the little unicorn what my intention is.

It neither moves away nor looks at me suspiciously so I touch it's soft white head," You are beautiful buddy "

It neighs as if asking for another apple.

I hold out another one and it contently begins chewing and affectionately rubs its small and single pearly horned head against the side of my body

Grinning I run my hand in it's soft silvery mane .

While I do so my thoughts take a bleak turn .
I wonder if I'm playing a game of pretence, Just an average high schooler trying too hard to be a royalty .

I push the thought away refusing to give into it but what can you say , Insecurities don't vanish overnight .

I'll have to work on them.

It's not like the Prince or Jabeen are not encouraging enough but I'll have to work on this myself.

I can't always be the Princess who constantly feels like a fish out of water .
I decide to find out more about my kingdom , my ancestors , my people.

After all knowledge is power and who knows I might start feeling like I belong to this kingdom as much as this kingdom belongs to me.

It's surprising how sometimes inspiration strikes you when you are least expecting it to. Here in a stable while I'm stroking a beautiful little unicorn !!

" Looks like somebody has made a quick friend " Kafaiir says handing me another apple because this one is almost over

" I made friends " I correct him as I grin looking at him
