Chapter 41

We run like our lives depends on it because it really does.

The town is labyrinthine with its twisting lanes and alleys .

I and Khsjc run hard and fast until we enter a dark and empty alley breathing heavily I rest against the high wall closing my eyes shut to relax " This is insane! " I exclaim and now that we are seemingly out of danger I feel hysterical laugher building in my throat.

" Thanks for getting me out of danger . It was crazy out there " I say opening my eyes to the darkness surrounding us as there isn't much light and sky overhead looks like it is preparing for dusk " I think the sun will set pretty soon we should...."

I pause when I suddenly feel cold , not because of weather but the kind of cold you feel when you sense something dangerous. I drop my eyes from the darkening skies and look at Khsjc who is standing at the mouth of the alley .

He stands with his legs spread and his eyes intently fixed on me , and not in a gentle or friendly manner. Maybe it is the trick of fading light but his eyes appear yellowish green with slit pupil.

I don't like the thought of being alone with him anymore.

" Ummm Khsjc ..." I clear my throat trying not to appear panicked " We should get out of here "

" Really ?" He arches an eyebrow.

" Yes " I nod quickly " Let's go "

" I don't think so " he tips his head to a side looking at me unblinkingly with a strange animalistic intensity " I rather like the sight of you here helpless alone and trapped "

His words send alarm bells ringing in my head but I try to appear unperturbed as I fix a smile on my face
" Trapped ?" I laugh but it sounds shaky even to my own ears "I'm not trapped I'm here with my friend this is no trapping "

" Ah ! but it is " He says jerking his head as a smile that makes chills run down my spin slashes across his face
" I have wanted you like this . You have played right into my hands princess " He smirks running his tongue over his teeth that suddenly appear too long and too sharp to be normal.

" Khsjc ,What's going on ?" Panic threatens to drown me but I fight against it to try and sound calm " I don't understand "

He let's out a laugh that barely sounds like his own " Of course you don't " He says throwing his head back as his jaw elongates and his body starts twisting oddly as if all the bones are relocating themselves and inhuman screams fill the air.

I'm terrified .
I wish I could run out of the alley but he is blocking the way.

I raise my weaponless hand in a vain attempt as a monstrous looking creature with big leathery wings stands in the same place where Khsjc had been standing just seconds ago .

He moves forward and I see the wickedly curved talons emerge from his fingers " I tried to trap you before but you turned me down turns out you are not so gullible and stupid , do you know how annoying it was ?"

Though it sounds like him there is nothing remotely human or a trace of the previously handsome features on this monster's face .

I don't have any words to say.
I don't know what the hell is going on !

" You bitch " The monster screeches in sudden rage " You are the reason for this blood shed and I will make you pay for it "

" Wh---?" I'm barely given a change to speak before the monster lunges pinning me down to the floor of the alley under it's huge body .
