Vicktoria's POV

I got a phone call from Eddie but I wasn't ready to talk about what had happened. I saw stuff that I can never un-see. Flashes of death came to me and I tried to distract myself but it wasn't working. I decided that I would call Dimitri because I really needed him right now. We used to talk all the time before he went to work at the academy. He's always been there for me but now I think he cares more about Rose than me.

The phone is ringing; after the third ring he picked up.

"Vicktoria?" I heard his calm voice say. "I was just about to call you. Are you okay?" He asked with concern. Tears started rushing down my face. I began sniffling.

"No. I'm not okay, Dimka," I sobbed.

"Vika... can you tell me what happened?" He asked.

"I didn't know that they were going to come. They came out of nowhere! They killed guardians right in front of me," I cried. "There was so much blood!" I yelled. My sadness turned into anger.

"Calm down, Vicktoria. Do you want me to call mama?" He said as if he didn't know what to do with me.

"I want to go home! I hate being here, Dimka. Whenever I walk through the field, it reminds me of what happened. Please, make it so I can come home," I begged.

"Vika, calm down. I will call Alberta in the morning, alright? But for now, you're going to have to stay put," he said trying to calm me down.

I nodded my head and took some deep breaths to try and calm down. "I miss you," I almost whispered.

"I miss you too, Vicktoria," He said.

"I'm going to go rest. Call me tomorrow?" I asked.

"Of course, Vika." I could tell he was smiling.

"I love you too, Dimka," and then I hung up the phone. Dimitri managed to calm me down a little but it wouldn't last. I needed to see mama and my sisters, including my annoying cousins.

Rose's POV

I still couldn't believe what had happened between Dimitri and I. Surely he enjoyed it... I turned him on; didn't I? Maybe I just need to have some fun and forget about Dimitri.

I left my bedroom and went to Eddie's dorm after I called Lissa to make sure she was okay. She said she was perfectly fine. I could feel her emotions; she was upset but not too much. She mostly felt guilty about the deaths of the guardians. I even felt a little bit of guilt even though it was out of my control.

I knocked on Eddie hotel door. "Hold on!" He answered. About ten seconds later, the door swung open to reveal Eddie. His hair was wet and he was in his PJ's, which was a men's tank top and shorts that sort of looked like boxers. I laughed a little about how weird he looked but stopped when he almost shut the door in my face.

"Do you want to hang for a little bit? Tomorrow hell will break lose with all the stupid training we have to do." Eddie rolled his eyes at me.

"You do realize that if it wasn't for your bad attitude we wouldn't be here in the first place?" Eddie hissed. I stepped back from him in surprise.

"It's not just my fault. Kirova—," Eddie interrupted me.

"Yes, it is! Take some freakin' responsibly in your life for once, Rose!" He yelled.

"How can you even say that to me? I do take responsibility for things that are my fault! I took responsibility for Mason's death, didn't I?!" I yelled back. "So don't you dare stand there telling me I don't," I hissed.

"Mason's death wasn't your fault! If anything it was mine. I shouldn't have let him go, Rose! If I had used my brain then he would still be here!" Eddie covered his face with his hands.

"I told him about the Strigoi attracts even when Dimitri told me not to! It's my fault!" I said with tears rushing down my face. Eddie shook his head and walked up to me. His arms were around me in an instant, comforting me. "And there's been another attack at the academy. I should've been there to protect Lissa. I let everyone down! I let Dimitri down, Lissa, Mason, my mother, Kirova—," he interrupted me again.

"Please stop, Rose. You're amazing. I let my anger get the best of me. This training will be good for both of us. It will make it so I can guard somebody even better," I sighed when he said that. "You're my best friend Rose. I love you," he whispered in my ear.

"I love you too, Eddie."

We love each other in a friend way; nothing more. Eddie has always been more like a brother to me. It would be sort of gross to date him. It's just because we've known each other practically our whole lives.

There was a knock at the door and then Dimitri entered the room. Anyone could see the shock on his face when he saw Eddie holding me while I cried.

"Are you two alright?" Dimitri asked but he was looking at me. He was a teacher; he had to be concerned for all the students.

Eddie kissed the top of my head and let me go. "We're fine," Eddie said to Dimitri. Dimitri obviously didn't believe Eddie but he dropped the topic.

"You two need to be heading to bed, we have a lot to do tomorrow," Dimitri said in his 'guardian tone.' Sometimes he really pisses me off.

I hugged Eddie before I left his room. Dimitri followed behind me. I closed my door but Dimitri caught it before it closed all the way. What was he doing?

"I thought you told us that we had to go to bed," I pointed out. Dimitri walker over to me and pulled me into his arms. My whole entire body went tense.

I let my whole entire body relax and wrapped my arms around his neck. I was confused too why Dmitri was doing this because he was the one that was always telling me that we shouldn't hold each other like this or even think about each other. I mean, he is right because we have a responsibility to Lissa and all of the other Moroi.

His presence, when he holds me like this, is so calming. " I heard what you were saying to Eddie. Mason's death was not your fault. You need to get over this in order to be able to protect Lissa one hundred," Dimitri said stroking my hair. He loved to touch my hair. A lot of people love my hair but he especially does.

"I'm trying but it's not just something I can get over. He was my best friend and I love him. Eddie's right; I need to learn to take responsibility for my actions. Being in this program I'm hoping that it will help me."

"Rose, you have grown up a lot since you've come back to the Academy. It amazes me how much you have. Amazes me how much you care for Lissa and all of the other Moroi.

He held me for a little bit longer and then he left to go to bed. We all needed our rest. After today, we'll probably get seven hours of sleep at most during the night.
