Stupid Surprises

Sorry that it has taken me so long to update. I've been busy with homework and Christmas celebrations. I will try and update every week from now on but that's not a promise. This fanfiction will problem only going to about chapter 35. I've started other books of my own so check them out. 

Rose's POV

Guardian Bender said he had a special surprise for the novices today that was waiting for us outside. I'm willing to bet the 'surprise' is running around the stupid field to improve our physical stamina. I just want to be back at St. Vladimir's watching a movie with Lissa and Vicktoria. I even miss making fun of Christian! The guy has started to grow on me, but I still think Lissa could do better.

I followed the group of novices outside with Eddie walking beside me. I still got a few glances and glares in my direction but I didn't care. I wasn't here to make friends with these novices. They all seem overconfident, judgemental and rude.

I looked around to see if I could spot Dimitri. I then found him walking beside a pretty blond woman with fair skin. Who the hell was that women and why was she talking to Dimitri? I decided to ignore it. I wasn't going to let me being jealous over another woman like what happened with Tahsha effect my day.

"Rose?" Eddie said tapping my shoulder.

"Yeah?" I asked feeling a little out of it.

"You okay? You were ignoring me for about a minute there. You were completely zoned out," he pointed out. I grinned at him showing him a was perfectly fine.

"I'm fine. Just a little tired from the flight and I didn't get a lot of sleep last night," I admitted. He flew he arm over my shoulder. I laughed when he purposely messed up my hair. "Don't mess up this masterpiece," I said smiling. He rolled his eyes.

We walked for about another minute until we were at the edge of the forest... weird. What would we be doing here? I thought that the guardians didn't want anyone even near the forest. Maybe it was different for these novices.

I then noticed a bunch of bags on the ground with food, water, tents, and other necessities. Why the hell was there a freakin' tent?! I looked over to Dimitri and he glanced at me giving me a warning look not to freak out. I glared at him and turned my head towards to where guardian Bender was standing.

"What is this?" One of the cocky guy novices asked.

"Well, Noah. This is what I call camping," Guardian Bender said.

Hell no!

I just went camping with St.Vladimir and it went terribly! The food was terrible, the sleep was awful and not to mention the bugs! They literally ate me alive. I will not camp again. I made a vow to myself that I would never go camping again when Dimitri took me back to the academy from the trip.

"I will be pairing you guys up with partners by drawing your names at of this bowl," he held up a bowl with paper in it that said our names. I better not end up with some obnoxious jerk. Maybe he'll put me with Eddie because we don't know anyone else. "Me, guardian Belikov and guardian Love will be going around to make sure everyone is safe. The reason we're doing this is to see how you guys would do in a situation where you have minimal resources and minimal supervision and help. You will be graded on this at the end."

"This is bullshit," I muttered under my breath. Eddie looked down at me a frowned.

"Rose, if you go into with a good attitude, then you might actually enjoy it," Eddie said trying to encourage me.

"Thanks, dad," I said sarcastically. Eddie rolled his eyes. "How many nights do we have to stay out there for?" I asked hoping it was short.

"Three but some of you might have to leave early due to not being able to cook your food, which means you couldn't make a fire," Guardian Bender replied. "You will each be given a pack that has food, flashlights, matches, sleeping bags, and other necessities. One of you will have your tent in their bag and the other will be carrying the water which is also quite heavy."

I was not pleased that I had to go camping and that I will probably end up with a really annoying partner in this dumb assessment. Luckily, none of this will count towards my grades. "Alright, let's draw the names to see who will be paired together," Guardian Bender said. Dimitri walked up with who I'm assuming is guardian Love and stood next to guardian Bender. "Guardian Belikov will help me choose the partners. I will draw one and he will draw the other one," he informed us.

"The first group..." guardian Bender pulled the first name out, "Noah Fulister," he yelled. Noah smirked a little and bragged about being first. What an idiot.

Dimitri pulled out the other name. "Julia Rain," he called out. Noah smirked at Julia and winked.

"No fucking way! That dick won't be sleeping in the same tent as her!" Liam O'Ryan yelled and began to get into Dimitri's face. "I will beat your ass!" He tried to push Dimitri but Dimitri blocked him and grabbed his arms. He put both his arms behind his back and held him there.

"Keep your hands to yourself," Dimitri said in his guardian tone. My mouth was wide open. I could barely believe what had just happened. Someone tried to hit Dimitri. Does Liam not know who Dimitri is? "I suggest you pull yourself together. Julia can speak for herself if she feels unsafe or uncomfortable." Dimitri let him go and he walked away and stood beside Julia. Julia grabbed his hand and squeezed it.

It was weird. Liam instantly settled down from her touch. The way he looked at her reminded me of the way Dimitri looked at me... he loved Julia. And I was pretty sure that Julia loved him by the way she looked at him. No wonder she is the only one that can calm him down. He looked like the kind of guy that didn't give a crap about anyone but she was an exception.

"I will talk to you later," guardian Love said to Liam with disappointment and anger in her tone. I'm willing to bet that guardian Love works at the academy that Liam and Julia go to.

We went through a lot of names and mine still hadn't been picked out. Eddie had though. He ended up with this guy named Alex who seemed pretty nice. Eddie seemed okay being in the same tent as him.

"Liam O'Ryan," Guardian Bender called out. I heard Liam swear under his breath angrily.

Dimitri's hand reached into the bowl and pulled out a name. He opened the paper up and then his whole body tensed. His jaw hardened. "Rose Hathaway," he said almost through gritted teeth. I almost burst out in laughter. This is so hilarious! Dimitri told me to stay away from Liam and now I was stuck in a tent with him for three nights.

Liam glanced over to me and grinned with a small smirk. He also gave me a wink and I rolled my eyes. I noticed Julia watching us and she seemed sad. Maybe because Liam was flirting with me and she liked him? I looked over to see Dimitri staring at me. He had his guardian mask on so I couldn't read his emotions. But I could guess. I think he was frustrated that Liam was going to sharing a tent with me.

Dimitri and Guardian Bender finished off reading the names. We were told to go to our partners and grab our things. I said goodbye to Eddie and slowly walked over to Liam and Julia. They were talking to each other and Julia had her hand on his arm.

When I reached them, Julia turned to me and smiled. "Hey, I'm Julia as you probably already know." Julia seemed like such a nice person. "And this is Liam, the guy you'll have to be with for the next three nights. I wish you luck. You're going to need it with this guy," she laughed hard.

"Julia's just jealous that she can't spend the three nights with me," Liam teased back.

"As if idiot," she shot back.

I felt like I was invading something so I didn't say anything. She awkwardly stood there looking at them.

"Come on, Red, we have a lot to get done today," Liam said walking away from me and Julia. Red?

"My name is Rose, asshole! You should know I hate nicknames," I yelled following him towards the bags.

"Whatever... Red," he said just to bug me. This was going to be a long three days.
