millie brown walked down the warm streets of atlanta, sending her close friend grace a text, telling her she would meet her at the coffee shop in five minutes.
she breathed in, enjoying the smell of summer. a smile overcame her lips as she saw a very familiar brunette, sitting in the front of the local coffee shop.
"rowan!" she called, the girl's head shot up, a smile immediately starting to form on her face as she walked over to millie, embracing her in a warm hug. "how have you been girl? i haven't seen you since school ended!" millie said cheerfully. "wow, it's been a really great summer so far, i went to italy for a month and i just got back last night!" rowan said, her smile widening with each second. "that's really great row, i'm glad you've had fun."
"rowan blanchard? i haven't heard that name in a hot minute!" a blue haired girl said from behind the two brunettes. "oh, grace!! how are you?" rowan said, walking over to her and giving her a tight embrace. "i've been amazing, thank you very much." she said, her voice slightly cracking. rowan smiled. "hey! we're matching now!" rowan cheered, referring to their hair-cuts. now both of the girls had shoulder length hair with bangs.
"we are! what a coincidence." the blue-haired girl replied, going over and hugging millie. "would you like to have lunch with us?" millie asked rowan. "oh no, i don't want to barge in on your guys' plans! besides, i was just about to leave. text me this weekend, we can hang out then!" rowan said, walking back over to the table she was at, closing her laptop, saying goodbye to the girls, and walking back to her home.
grace and millie shrugged, walking into the small coffee shop and ordering something to drink. they spoke about how their summer was going and how they need to hang out with the group sometime soon.

a little bell rang, signaling someone entered the coffee shop. millie looked up, wondering who had walked in.
she saw a very familiar curly haired boy, walking in to order something. she almost choked on her drink.
it was finn.
she hadn't seen him since they broke up. he was still a sight for sore eyes, and millie couldn't help but stare at him. his curls looked curlier than ever and she couldn't help but notice that he had gotten taller.
"millie? hellooo?" grace said, waving a hand in front of the short haired girls face. grace turned around to see what she was looking at. right as grace turned to look at finn, finn looked up from his phone, meeting eyes with grace. the blue haired girl just smiled and waved, acting like millie wasn't there. finn half smiled and waved back, trying not to look at millie who was already looking at him.
grace turned back around to find millie staring down at the table, eyes watering the slighest bit. she took a deep breath and looked up with a smile. "so, after this, where are we going?" she asked like she didn't just see her ex who was dared to fall in love with her.
like she didn't just see the boy who she loves so so much. like she didn't just see the boy who broke her heart.
"millie..." grace said with a knowing look. "it's fine grace, i'm fine. really." she said with a smile. grace nodded, dropping the subject. she knew how touchy that subject was and she didn't want to push it.
the girls enjoyed the rest of their afternoon, laughing and creating new memories.
but what they didn't know was a certain curly haired boy was watching them from outside.

finn wolfhard was walking to the local coffee shop of atlanta, admiring the nice warm weather. not too hot, not too cold. just perfect. he was texting caleb, who was asking him if they could hang out sometime that week.
finn replied, opening the door to the coffee shop, hearing a little ding come from it and smiling to himself, it reminding him of someone. he got in line, scrolling through instagram. he came across a certain post that made his heart flutter and shatter at the same time;

finn smiled at his phone, admiring the pretty girl on the screen. he wondered why she cut her hair, but nonetheless, he thought it suited her perfectly. he couldn't help but feel sad at the same time, wishing things were different. "i can help who's next!" a cashier said, making finn click his phone off and walk up with a smile. "hi, can i get an almond milk latte? thank you." he said. "of course, can i have a name?" the bubbly girl questioned, grabbing a sharpie from the drawer. "uh, finn." he awkwardly said.
"your order will be ready soon." the blonde said with a smile. "thank you." finn mumbled, walking over to wait for his coffee. he turned his phone back on, the picture of millie still consuming his screen. he clicked off, checking to see if caleb had responded.
he sighed, seeing no response from his friend. the raven haired boy felt a pair of eyes on him from across the room, so he looked up.
and there she was. miss millie brown.
they locked eyes for a split second, millie breaking it and looking down at the table. a certain blue haired girl turned around, looking at finn. she smiled and waved, he half smiled and awkwardly waved back.
"almond milk latte for finn." an employee called, finn thanking them, grabbing it, and walking out to sit outside. he heard a laugh from inside and couldn't help but look through the glass and see who it was.
it was millie.
he sighed, watching the two, but only for a little while.
then he left.
with a certain brunette on his mind.
