September 2006, Forks High School

Edward's P.O.V

I notice my little pixie sister skipping her way down the hallway toward me, obviously don't giving a damn of what people think of the little freshman still behaving like a toddler. Not gonna lie, I now see why the older grade students hate little freshman. They're literally children, hence my sister being example number one. It almost makes me want to make a u-turn and walk the other way, but it's too late. I've made eye contact with the devil and there is no going back.

"Eddie!" She reaches me and grabs my hand, jumping up and down in her spot. "Guess what guess what guess what?!"

"Jesus, Alice, behave!" I yank my hand away from her when she tugs it too hard. "What's the matter?"

"They gave her permission to sleep over!" She squeals, calling more attention to us. "She's being dropped off at five at our place."

Great, pronoun games. How am I supposed to know who she is?

"Who?"

Alice glares. "Bella, you idiot. I've told you about her?" No, doesn't ring a bell. "Bella Swan, we were talking about her the other day?" Perhaps she was talking about her the other day. Nope, still have no idea who she is talking about. "Bella Swan, you idiot, Emmett's sister!"

"Oh!" Yeah, I forgot Emmett had a sister. I've never met her. She's coming over? "Okay, I know who you're talking about... Why do I care?"

Alice glares. "You're an ass. Look, she's spending the night, okay? Try to be nice to her, she's a really great friend."

"Alice, I really don't care who you bring over as long as you guys don't bother me, okay? It's a two way deal, you don't bother me, I won't bother you. Deal?"

Alice nods. "Sounds good. You can lock yourself in your room." We shake hands. "Anyway, just wanted to let you know. Love you!"

Ew. I swallow the vile that rose up in my throat and continue my way to my biology class, where I'm greeted by Emmett.

"What's up, bro?" We bump fists as I drop on the seat next to him. "Heard my sister is sleeping over at your place."

"Oh yeah, Alice just told me. Seems pretty excited."

Emmett nods. "Yeah, so is Bella. This is the first time my parents have ever let out of the house overnight. It's a big deal for her." He leans on the table. "Which brings me to this, I know you're a cool dude and everything, but can you keep an eye on her? Just make sure she doesn't do anything crazy."

He wants me to babysit his sister? What am I? A girl? "Mmm, I don't know, Em. I kind of made a deal with Alice that I wasn't going to bother them tonight."

Emmett groans. "I know, but-"

"Emmett, you've met my sister and my parents. Exactly how much trouble could they get into within the four walls of Alice's bedroom? They're probably going to sit down and watch Bridget Jones Diary or something like that."

"Yeah, you're right. I mean, you understand, you have a little sister as well, you get why I'm worried."

I snort and chuckle. "Yeah right. You know, the first time my parents let Alice sleep over at her friend's house, I practically threw her out the door. I'll pay a really large sum to get her out of my house. We're not all loving brothers."

Mr. Banner walks in, five minutes late, by the way.

"Alright, everyone, settle down and let's begin class."

The smell of Mom's roasted chicken is what brings me out of my bedroom later that afternoon. I follow it gladly to the kitchen, where she's cooking and singing to herself like always.
