Reggie and Fae had been on the road for hours. They had made multiple stops, not all for Fae and Ambush, and at each one Fae made sure to water Penny and the unnamed Colt. She was being extra cautious with the colt in the trailer. She wanted to make sure he always had enough to drink.
"So this house your dad wants us to stop at, do you know who lives there?" Reggie asks as he drives the truck under the speed limit. Fae had called him out for speeding multiple times and told him if he didn't start driving slower she would drive. He didn't want to get on her nerves, knowing the day had been stressful enough, so he slowed down.
"Uhh, kind of. I know her name is Erika and that she's my fourth cousin or something like that. But I've never actually met her." Fae admits as they pull into a long driveway. There are hundreds of cows surrounding each side of the driveway.
"She apparently likes cows," Reggie says as the truck comes to a stop. Fae giggles and gets out of the truck. Ambush jumps out and sticks to her side. Reggie is at her other side as the front door opens. Three dogs come running and Ambush instantly is on the offense. He growls loudly in warning.
"Heel Ambush," Fae tells her pup calmly. He looks up at his owner and sits at her side.
"You must be Fae! Oh looks at you! You're absolutely beautiful! Oh you look so much like your grandma!" Erika gushes as she walks up to Fae and pulls her into a hug. Faes eyes are wide and she looks to Reggie for help.
"Faes not big on hugs." Reggie tries to save his girlfriend. He should have just kept his mouth shut.
"You must be Reginald! It's so nice to meet you." She pulls Reggie into a hug and Fae can't help but laugh at the wide eyed look on his face.
"Yes, this is Reginald." Fae giggles knowing Reggie hates being called Reginald.
"It's uhh, Reggie actually." He says and Erika pulls away from him.
"Alright, Reggie. Well why don't we get these horses unloaded for the night so you two can get some rest." She walks past them and unlocks the trailer.
"She's," Reggie cant seem to find the right word for the woman who's opened the trailer.
"Yeah, she's something." Fae giggles and walks up the ramp of the trailer and to Penny. The young colt has already left the trailer and is grazing on the grass in the yard. Fae unties Penny and backs her out. She whinnys to the colt who trots over to her.
"Lead the way." Fae smiles at Erika.
Erika leads her to a pen where she usually keeps the bulls. "The bulls are usually in here but I put them in the barn for the night. Thought this would be easier for you tomorrow."
"It's perfect, thank you." Fae releases Penny with the colt by her side. She sets the lead line on the gate of the pen. She closes it up and walks to the front of the trailer where the tack usually goes. She opens it and grabs some hay from an open bail. She throws it in to the two horses.
"Let's get you two inside, I'm sure you're both rather hungry and tried." Erika walks towards the house. Fae goes to grab her bag from the truck but Reggie already has both his and hers. He smirks and she sticks her tongue out.
Fae snaps her fingers and Ambush comes running up to her. He walks right at her side as they enter the house. It's a small home but it's cute.
"Alright, I only have one guest room so one of your will have to sleep in my sons room. He's away with his father so we don't have to worry about anyone bunking with him." Erika tells them as she opens the door to the guest bedroom.
