Just a little Mitch fluff before Fae starts school! It's a short chapter, so sorry.
Doctor Mitch Rapp sits across from his favorite patient, Fae Moore. Although he'd never tell her that to her face. He's not supposed to have favorites. He's also not supposed to let himself get attached to his patients, but he just can't help but adore the hell out of the young woman.
"Are you going to tell me why you look like you want to kill me?" He asks her trying not to smile. He knows it will just make her more angry. But her angry face is actually extremely adorable. Seriously, how the hell can someone look so cute when they look like they're about to commit murder?
"We are not having a 'family' session Mitch. I know you talked to my dad about it but it's not happening. There is no way in hell I am sitting in this room with you and my family while talking about what that bitch did to me." Her glare seems to darken with the mention of Linda.
Mitch holds up his hands in surrender. "Alright, no family sessions, got it." He smiles at Fae and leans back in his chair. "Are you ready for school?"
Fae scoffs, "no. I'd rather have lunch with a ghoulie then go to school. I know what everyone's going to be talking about. What they all think of me." She growls as she pulls her feet under her to get more comfortable.
"You know if they knew the truth they wouldn't be as judgmental. I mean I understand you don't want anyone to know about your.. attack.. that it's still fresh and we don't talk about it, yet. But people wouldn't give you those looks if they knew the truth."
"That's total bullshit and you know it. People will always judge me. If not for that then for the fact that I am keeping the baby and not having an abortion. Or even the fact that I've 'trapped' Reggie." She shakes her head, "people will always judge someone like me. They see me as someone that is 'below' them."
"And not wanting to go to school has nothing to do with Jason not being there? It's all about how people perceive you?" He asks her softly. He knows how much she loved Jason. He meant more to her than she will ever admit.
Far frowns and turns away. "Why do you let me call you Mitch? Isn't that like, I don't know, against the rules?" She changes the topic.
Mitch smiles at her. "Well as long as you don't tell on me I don't see any problem with it. You're more comfortable calling me Mitch. I want you to feel comfortable when you enter this room."
Fae fiddles with her jacket ziper and smiles. They don't have the usual doctor patient relationship, and Fae likes that about him. He let's loose and even talks about himself some times. Fae would go as far as to say they were friends.
"Thank you." She mumbles quietly. He just smiles and leans forward. "So I see your contacts finally came. I bet it's nice not having to clean your glasses constantly."
"It's strange. I'm constantly trying to push up something that isn't there. And I go to take them off only to realize they aren't there." He tells her as he scratches his cheek.
Fae giggles, "I bet you look funny every time you do it. You probably get all flustered and I bet you blush when you realize what your doing. You're constantly blushing, it's quite endearing."
He laughs, "I will admit I do it often but I do not blush!"
"Whatever you say pal." Fae smiles and leans forward.
Far once again sits across from Mitch Rapp, but this time it's not in the office but in a small coffee shop. Far had been feeling clostraphobic today so they decided to meet here rather then his small office. She's really glad she decided to keep seeing him.
"How's your hot chocolate?" Mitch asks as he lifts his coffee to his lips.
Fae beams "best cup I've ever had. But don't tell my dad that." She giggles and leans forward.
Mitch smiles while setting his cup down. "Alright I won't, if you tell me what's got you so jumpy today." Fae frowns and leans back once again.
"I noticed that every time the Bell rings you look at the door. You also have us sitting in the one corner with a visual of all the exits while having your back pressed against the wall. No one can sneak up on you this way. Seems like a common case of hypervigilance if you ask me. So what's brought it on?" Mitch asks softly. He doesn't want to push her too hard. He knows how she can be if she feels threatened.
"I got a letter this morning.." Far digs in her bag and pulls it out. It's crumpled and obviously it was read while she was distressed.
"May I read it?" He asks while leaning forward with his hand out for the letter. Fae frowns and hands it over.
"I uhh.. well I just don't know how to feel about it. It doesn't help that I feel like I'm constantly being watched..." She admits and Mitch can see the stress now. He doesn't know how he missed it when he got here.
Mitch looks down at the letter in his hands and frowns. It's from one of Faes 'attackers'. It is a simple letter explaining that when she has the child he and his.. companions, demand a blood test and rights to whoever's child it is. It also states that they will be out soon and expect to see her.
Mitch clenches his jaw. The letter had been written weeks ago and she had just now obviously received it. They were all most likely out now. To hell with that, he dares them to come for her. He'd finish them off himself if need be. He wouldn't let them lay a finger on her let alone her son.
"Don't worry about any of this." He folds up the letter and sets it next to his coffee. "We'll get you a restraining order against all three of them and I'm sure that lawyer of yours would love to make sure they never see you or your 'parasite'"
Fae nods and fiddles with her cup. "Wh-what if they.. what if they try to take him..." one of her hands goes to her stomach while the other stays on her cup.
"Even if they got the best lawyer they could hire you would still win. They are gang members, they have no jobs, they are also convicted felons. While you have a stable home and family, you own a multi-billion dollar company, you are not in a gang, and you have never been convicted or accused of anything. Any judge that sides with someone like that them is obviously being bribed in which case, if I'm not mistaken, you can apply for a change in venue. And if all else fails your company has connections to fix the problem."
Fae nods and smiles at Mitch. "Thanks, I needed to hear all of that. I've just been..."
Mitch takes her hand in his. "It's ok to be afraid Fae. Just know that you have a lot of people who will do anything to protect you and your son, myself included." He gently squeezes her hand. "Now why don't you call up that lawyer of yours and have him apply to terminate their parental rights."
"I will, thank you Mitch." Fae wipes away a tear with the hand he's not holding and smiles. "You're an amazing friend."
Mitch knows he should correct her. He knows he should tell her he's her doctor not her friend but he can't bring himself to do it. He doesn't see her as a patient anymore. Seven sessions in and she really feels more like family then anything else. He'll let it slide this time and correct her next time, or maybe he won't, yeah he most likely won't.
