The next day Fae wished she had listened to her gut and stayed in bed. The moment she walked into school and heard the news she wanted to puke. They had found Jason's body.
Fae sat in her science class with Reggie at her side. She looks down at the frog. "I don't think I can do this." Fae admits as her hand, which is holding the scalpel, shakes.
Reggie takes it from her and sets it down. He stands up and grabs her bag along with his own. He then holds out his hand for her. She takes his hand and stands, before she can leave with him Sheriff Keller walks in with the principle.
"You're here for me, aren't you? Because of the autopsy." Cheryls voice rings through the classroom as she stands. Fae frowns at the red headed girl she used to call her best friend.
Principal Weatherbee frowns, "We don't need to do this in front of your classmates, Cheryl." He says as he stands in the door.
"What's going on?" Fae whispers to Reggie.
"It's all right, Principal Weatherbee. They'll find out soon enough." Cheryl says as she holds out her wrists for the sheriff.
"No, that won't be necessary."
Suddenly the new girl stands up. Fae raises an eyebrow at her. "Wait, Cheryl. Find out what?"
"That I'm guilty." Cheryl answers and Fae has to clutch to Reggie to keep from fainting. What the hell does she mean she's guilty? Guilty of what exactly?
"Excuse me?" Faes voice comes out shaky. Her eyes are wide and she looks like she's going to puke.
"It's not what you think Fae. I'm so sorry." Cheryl says before she leaves the room. What the hell could that damn red head be sorry about? What did she do?
"Babe, calm down." Reggie tries as he takes her face in his hands.
She takes a large shaky breath and puts her hands over his. "I-i" she pulls away and runs out of the room straight to the bathroom where she throws up her breakfast.
Reggie stands outside the bathroom door. He knows she will throw a fit if he goes in. As he's about to say screw it and head inside he's pushed back by Veronica and Betty who both head inside.
"Fae?" Betty calls as she walks over to the stall that Fae sits in. She frowns and kneels in front of her. Faes tear streaked face looks up at her friend and the stranger.
"Are you ok?" The stranger asks Fae as she kneels beside Betty.
Fae shakes her head as her bottom lip trembles and more tears stream. "He's gone, he's really gone. She lied and..." Fae can't finish her train of thought. She just wants everything to stop.
Betty pulls Fae into her arms. "Shh, it's ok Fae. Everything's going to be ok."
"I'm sure Cheryl had nothing to do with his death Fae." The stranger tries to calm the girl.
"Veronica's right, Cheryl couldn't hurt Jason." Betty adds as she rubs Faes back. "Now let's get you cleaned up, alright?"
Fae sat on one of the couches in the student lounge. Reggie was supposed to meet her there, he promised he'd get her Pops. She hadn't eaten so she was starving.
"Here you go beautiful." Reggie sets the food down next to her then kneels in front of her. He places both of his hands on her bump and smiles. "Have to feed the little man here." He kisses her bump softly and Fae can't help but giggle.
She digs into her food and watches Reggie as he talks to his friends. "I mean let's think about it: if a kid at Riverdale killed Jason, it's not gonna be a jock right? No let's be honest. Isn't it always some spooky, scrawny, pathetic internet troll too busy writing his manifestos to get laid? Some smug, moody, serial killer, fanboy freak... like Jughead?"
