eleanor anne kavinsky.

in eleanor's free time (which she barely ever had) she spent her time doing things that amused her. one of the things that amused her was checking news articles about herself. lately, many of them had been trending and she had made a point to go through them and see what lies they were all spinning and twitter's reactions to them which made her laugh way more than they should have. so when she grudgingly boarded her flight to toronto the next day, she bought wifi on the plane and looked through all of them.

the first article she read was about what they knew about hers and shawn's relationship so far and it was the most ridiculous thing she had ever read. of course, there were the photos and videos they had both posted recently and their shared magazine cover but the things that made her laugh were from years ago when they both had the same instagram caption or if they were spotted in the same city at the same time - even if they were nowhere near each other. even stupid things like similar lyrics in their songs!

the second one was speculating if they had already moved in together because fans hadn't recognised the house they were at yesterday (eleanor made a point to ask chris if she had ever posted a picture of her house and if one did exist, it had to be taken down immediately; she couldn't be blamed for not wanting the inside of her house on the internet, right?) and they were trying to figure out how long the two had been together.

the third one she read was claiming that shawn and eleanor were actually just close friends (despite chris making them kiss on camera and marina referring to eleanor as his girlfriend) and that they were 'playfully flirting' and eleanor was actually dating marina instead. when eleanor showed marina that article, she laughed incredibly loud, annoying the other passengers in first class and earning many dirty looks. "we know too many of each other's dirty secrets to date - hell, sometimes i wonder why we're even friends!"

"because i make you look better," eleanor teased.

"whatever," marina rolled her eyes.

when their plane landed and they escaped the paparazzi at the airport, they got into a cab chris had ordered yesterday and chris started with the details of their days in toronto. "so, today you're meeting with a new producer i think you'll like for album three. and then i've scheduled a another meeting with the australian tour manager to get all the details straight - and by the way, have you got an opening act yet?" chris asked, scrolling through various emails on his phone.

"i have a list," eleanor repsonded.

"good. and tomorrow it's shawn's final show on his world tour and you've been booked as a surprise special guest to close the show and tour with a bang-"

"wait, i'm performing with mendes! but chris, you know i don't do collaborations-" eleanor attempted to argue.

"sorry e, but the label's making you-"

"and because of the contract i signed, they can do whatever they like," eleanor sighed.

"hey!" marina said, pushing eleanor's shoulder and trying to make the vibe of the car a little more positive, "you love performing, don't you? you just finished the north american leg of your tour and you've got two months before the australian leg starts so enjoy it! even if it's just for one song!"

"anyway, i love watching you perform. you look like you're genuinely happy and because of all the shit in your life, it's hard for you to be happy. so please, just do it! and maybe you and mendes can bond a little?" marina suggested.

"we tried that yesterday. i can tolerate his presence for a peak time of ten minutes before needing to take a shot," eleanor rolled her eyes.

"what song are you two doing?" marina asked.

"i don't know. probably one of his songs and one of mine. or at least that's what i've seen at other people's shows if they have a guest," eleanor shrugged.

"yep," chris nodded, "andrew said that you two will close with his song, 'there's nothing holdin' me back' and one of yours. i was thinking 'american' or have you got a better idea?"

"i would like to do gods and monsters or cola but i don't think that's appropriate for his demographic so american would be cool."

"yeah, imagine singing about how your pussy tastes like pepsi cola in front of a bunch of thirteen year olds - dinah said that everyone in her class went to the shawn's madison square garden show," marina laughed.

"damn, sometimes i forget that dinah goes to a school full of rich bitches," eleanor chuckled.

"okay, we're here," chris said once the car stopped, "fun fact, we're pretty close to shawn's condo."

"do i have to see him today? it's ten am and i can't be asked to socialise with more people than necessary. it's bad enough with marina here - hey!" eleanor groaned as marina punched her in the arm.

their car was unloaded by a hotel bagboy and the suv they arrived in drove off as they walked into the overly posh hotel and they were greeted with the pleasant sight of zero screaming fans - at least in eleanor's opinion.

"e, can i use your phone to check something? i ran out of data on my phone," marina asked.

"marina jane hernandez, you're rich as fuck and you don't have unlimited data?" eleanor chuckled.

marina could only shrug. eleanor passed marina her phone and a few seconds into marina's usage, her phone pinged indicating she had been sent a message.

"who's it from?" eleanor asked curiously.

marina hesitated before saying, "nothing."

little did she know that marina deleted that message as soon as she saw who it was from.

a/n - i apologise for how boring this chapter was! so eleanor's music will just be lana del rey's music just as a reference and her latest release would've been born to die: the paradise edition. also the timeline in this book is incredibly fucked up and does not correlate at all with real life but i will try and make it roughly fit real life! vote and comment of you enjoyed <3
