After a few hours of sleep I woke to the smell of bacon and coffee wafting up through the floorboards from the kitchen, my mom must not have been able to sleep well either. I walked into the kitchen to see her dressed and breakfast already made.

"Couldn't sleep?" I asked her as I poured myself a cup of coffee.

"No." She gave me a sad smile. "I've been to visit Lily already this morning."

"How is she? And how's Eddie?"

"I think she's in shock right now, which is normal with something like this. Good news though is that physically she is healing perfectly, a little silver lining in a bad situation I guess." She gave a small shrug. "Eddie seems to be doing- okay. I think he's worried about Lily, she hasn't said a word since it happened, which we all know for Lily to be quiet is not normal."

"No that is definitely not normal." I said frowning. "I'm going to head to Uncle Alf and Aunt Lou's, they need to be updated."

"Breakfast first, then Luna duties. It's still early, eat a little first then you can go." She steered my towards the table and put a plate of food in front of me, my stomach growled at the sight and smell of it.

"Maybe you're right." I said as I dug into my food, my mom gave me a knowing smile as she went back to grab her plate. We ate in silence, only speaking a little here and there, I think both of us just wanted to enjoy the quiet after everything. After we finished I helped her clean up the kitchen before going our separate ways, mom to the clinic and me to the Uncle Alf's and Aunt Lou's, I decided to shift and run there even though it wasn't too far. Claire was happy to be able to stretch her legs a little bit and it felt good to run. I stopped behind their house and shifted back, quickly getting dressed before I walked to the back door and knocked.

"Come in." I heard Annie's Oma holler. I walked in to see her flipping pancakes on the stove.

"Was wondering when you would show up, we heard you guys were getting back last night." Oma was not one to beat around the bush with formalities, she got straight to the point and it was one of the things I loved about her.

"Good morning to you too Oma." I said giving her a kiss on her cheek. "Are Uncle Alf and Aunt Lou up?"

"Yes, they're in his office." She said waving towards the door. "Here take these too them." She shoved a tray with two plates of pancakes, syrup, and OJ into my hands.

"Yes ma'am." I gave her a curtsy then left the kitchen smiling. Oma was a tough lady but she did have a soft side that occasionally came out and I wanted to always be on her good side.

I walked thru Annie's childhood home and smiled at the memories that flooded me, soon there would be another little one running thru these halls making their own memories. When I reached Uncle Alf's office I knocked on the door with my knee, trying not to spill anything, Aunt Lou opened the door and smiled when she saw it was me.

"Renee sweetie you're back, come in and put that tray down so I can hug you." She opened the door wide and ushered me in. Uncle Alf smiled hello to me from behind his desk as I set the tray down on the coffee table. I turned back around to Aunt Lou and hugged her, I had missed her also.

"Renee, it's good to see you back and safe. How did the trip go?" Uncle Alf asked getting straight to business.

"I'll tell you all about it but first I need to tell you guys about Lily Jones." I paused feeling myself become a little emotional.

"Did she have her pup last night?" Aunt Lou perked up, she loved new pups.

"She did, but it was a stillborn. The umbilical cord was wrapped around its neck, there was nothing mom could do to save it. We were all there for the birth, she's absolutely devastated." I said solemnly, Aunt Lou gasped and covered her mouth with her hand.
