*Riley's POV*
"Pass it back." Emily said to me as she handed me a stack of papers. I looked through them real quick to see if any of the edited pieces were mine. Once I was done finding mine I gave them to the boy behind me.
"Okay, students. Listen up before I start this lesson I would just like to remind you to be careful when walking home today. Now let's get on with the lesson." Ms. Irvan said as she stepped to the front of the class. "What is she referring to?" I whispered to Emily. Teachers never wish students any safety unless told, so what could be the problem?
"There was a shooting last night at a store." Emily whispered back. "Who got shot?" I asked. "I'm not sure." Emily shrugged. I nodded and turned my attention back to the lesson.

I walked through the halls with Ethan as we had science together for 3rd period. "Hey, have you seen Tracy?" Ethan asked. "Um no. Did she come to school today?" I said looking at the people walking around. "Yeah. Some people said they'd seen her. Something happened and she's really upset about it." Ethan explained scrolling through his phone.
"Oh." I said, not really sure how to respond. Ethan and I reached the cafeteria and he was about to go to his table when his arm reached out across my chest and stopped me from walking. "There she is." He said pointing to my table. I looked and saw Alyssa, Emily, Sadie, and Kevin sitting at the table comforting a crying Tracy.
Ethan and I walked over there immediately. "Tracy, what's wrong?" Ethan asked sitting across from her. She shook her head, her long black hair moving as she did so. "She's been like this all day. She skipped her classes this morning." Sadie said hugging Tracy. "Let's trade." Ethan suggested and Sadie got up so she sat next to me and Ethan took her spot.
"Tracy, I know something's wrong. We can help you if you just tell us." Ethan said facing her. Tracy shook her head and cried more into his shirt. "You c-ca-can't help." She sobbed. I looked up at Alyssa and she shrugged. "Tracy look at me." Ethan said holding her so she was staring at him.
"What's wrong?" He demanded. "It's Trent." She cried. "What about him?" Ethan asked. "L-Last night, h-he g-got sh-shot!" Tracy cried more into Ethan's shirt.
"Oh my gosh." Ethan said stunned. We all sat there, just as shocked as Ethan. Trent was Tracy's twin brother and they were closer than anyone. "Tracy, I'm so sorry." Ethan said rubbing her back. "I-It's fine. Really. H-He's in the h-hospital." She hiccuped. I haven't seen Trent in a while but from what I knew he's really easy to get along with and super nice. So why did have to happen to him?
"Do you want to go see him after school today?" Ethan asked. Tracy nodded her head. "Alright." Ethan agreed. "So how was class for everyone?" Ethan asked trying to lighten the mood around the table. It was quiet except for the loud noises around us.
"I have homework for Ms. Irvan. But I'm having trouble with it." Emily finally spoke. "I can help you. I mean I have her too and we-well we could work on it after school if y-you'd like?" Kevin offered. "Yeah, be good." Emily smiled at him. "You guys are too cute." Tracy smiled weakly while shaking her head. "Yeah, why don't you guys just date already." Sadie laughed.
"It's not like that and besides she doesn't like me." Kevin said quietly. I could see the look of sadness on Emily's face when he said that but it quickly left. They've been hanging out a lot lately and I'm pretty sure Emily is starting to like him but I've never asked her about it.
"Does anyone want to hang out tomorrow after school?" Sadie asked. "Emily and I don't have practice." "I will." I said. "Tracy and I can go." Ethan said while he hugged Tracy. "Alyssa, Emily, Kevin?" Sadie asked. "I'm definitely going. I don't want to be stuck home all day with my stepdad. He's starting to act like he's my real father and I don't like it." Alyssa said.
"Uh, I'll go." Emily nodded. "Kevin?" Sadie asked. "Um, I can't." he said. I could see the tips of his ears turn red. "I have to help Brittany Anderson study." he trailed. I could see the look of surprise on everyone's face. Brittany Anderson was the coolest girl in the school. She's adored by all the boys and can get anyone she wants basically.
And I can assure you everyone at this table knows that Brittany doesn't just want to study with Kevin. "It's just History and Algebra. Nothing else." Kevin said aloud but more towards Emily. I could see tears in her eyes as Emily stood up and grabbed her backpack.
"I have to go somewhere. I'll be back." she said calmly. Emily's voice was as if she was perfectly fine but we all knew she wasn't. And we definitely knew she wasn't coming back.
Emily stood from the table and walked out the cafeteria. "Oh my god! You can not be serious right now!" Alyssa shouted slamming her hands on the table. Kevin sputtered and replied, "Well, she asked me yesterday and she said she'd give me something in return and I—" "Are you that stupid?" I almost shouted.
"Bro, Brittany just wants to get at you. You better cancel and go apologize to Emily." Ethan said shaking his head. "Kevin..." Tracy said. "Wait, are you saying that Emily's upset about this?" Kevin asked. "Yes." Tracy said. "But why?" Kevin asked dumbfounded. "Because she likes you!" We all said at once. Kevin looked completely shocked and new to this information.
"I messed up..." Kevin said with his hand covering her mouth. "I need to go find her." Kevin stood up and got his backpack. "Does anyone know where she is?" He asked. "She's in the library." I said. "Thanks." Kevin said and left out the cafeteria.
"Sometimes he just doesn't understand." said Alyssa. "Honestly." Sadie said shaking her head. "Anyway, what are we doing tomorrow?" I asked Sadie. "I was planning that we go to the fair that's opening up for the next two weeks." she said. "Is everyone down for that? And, Riley, you can even invite that little boyfriend of yours." she smirked.
"Oh my gosh. How many times do I have to say it. We're not dating and I barely know him!" I said. I quickly scanned the table and realised Peter wasn't actually here and I realized I haven't seen him all day. "Actually, where is Peter? Has anyone seen him today?" I asked. Sadie rolled her eyes, "See this exactly proves my point."
"There is nothing going on." I groaned. I then pulled out my phone. "Are you texting Peter?" Alyssa said drawing out his name in a sing-song voice. "Yes." I said rolling my eyes.
Riley: Hey, where are you?
I sent the text and waited for him to reply in a few minutes as normal but he didn't. "Where is he?" Ethan asked. I shrugged. "Not answering. He normally responds fast." "Who knows." Sadie shrugged. Then the bell rang signalling that we had to get back to class.
