*Peter's POV*
I sat down in Science class and waited for the bell to ring. Looking around no one was here but the teacher. Finally she looked up to me. "Peter, just the person I want to see." she smiled. I gave her a confused look. She then got up out of her seat and started to walk towards me. Her heels clicked on the floor until she stopped at least a few feet away.
"How have you been?" she asked. Horrible. "Good." I said bluntly. "Well that's good. I noticed how well you're doing in this class and I was wondering if you wanted to tutor a student for me?" she asked. "Uh sure. I guess." I shrugged. "Oh that's fantastic. She's in the class actually. Her name is Ruby. She sits in the front." The teacher guestured.
I tried to remember someone named Ruby in this class but no face clicked with her name in my mind. The bell finally rung and students flowed into the class. "Well, I'll introduce you two after class." The teacher said walking back to her desk. Throughout the class I was trying to see if I knew a Ruby in the class but there were multiple girls in the front row.
An hour later class finally ended and I stayed in my seat. It was now I noticed the girl sitting in the front row. She turned around to me and smiled. I waved to her.
She wore a blue and white striped button up that was cut into a crop top with denim shorts, brown boots and a gray beanie. Her hair was brown—which reminded me of Riley's— and she has blue eyes. "Peter this is Ruby. Ruby this is Peter. Ruby, Peter will be tutoring you for the big test coming up." The teacher introduced.
"Hello, Peter." she said. Her voice was small. "Hi, Ruby." I said. "Hopefully you guys can work out some schedule for the tutoring to begin." the teacher said. She then handed me a packet. "This will be a few things that will be gone over for the test. Hopefully you can teach it to her." I nodded. "Okay then you two are dismissed." she said.
I put the packet in my backpack and began to walk out of class. Walking down the hall I heard footsteps behind me. "Hey, Peter. I was wondering if you could help me sometime after school?" Ruby asked as she step in sync with me. "Uh sure. But I live on the other side of town maybe we can meet at like a Starbucks or something." I said turning the corner.
"Oh uh, okay. But if you want we can work at my house. I only live across the street from the school." she said. Honestly I have nothing against this girl but I don't know how I feel being alone with her. "Uh, we could work in the library after school." I said. "Okay." she agreed.
I noticed Riley standing by my locker and I felt a smile play on my lips. "Aww your smile is cute." she smiled. She put her hand on my arm and I felt the pain shoot through my arm. I moved my arm away, probably a bit more hostile than I wanted. "Sorry." she said. "It's okay. Uh, how are your classes?" I asked. "They're good. I mean science is tough but that's why you're gonna help." she smiled.
I looked towards my locker to see Riley's eyes locked on Ruby. Her eyes then moved to me. I could tell she tried to remain eye contact but her eyes kept flickering back to Ruby. Was she jealous or upset that I was walking with Ruby?
Ruby and I walked up to Riley and Riley's eyes stayed locked on Ruby. "Hey, Riley." I said trying to stop her from mentally burning Ruby with her eyes. "Hey." she said. Her smile wasn't there all the way and her eyes stayed on Ruby. "Hi, I'm Ruby." Ruby said sticking out her hand.
"I'm Riley." Riley said sweetly. She didn't seem upset at all. Riley shook her hand. "I'm supposed to be tutoring Ruby for our science test." I explained. "Oh cool." Riley said finally looking at me. "I have to get to class, okay?" Riley said. "Can I walk you?" I asked. "Aww that's cute." Ruby gushed. "Are you two dating?" "No." Riley said immediately.
Not gonna lie it hurt when she said that. "We're just close friends." Riley said. Riley then wrapped her arms around my torso lightly. I hugged her back. "See you at lunch." Riley said. "See you." I said. Then then started to walk down the hall. I stood there in silence with Ruby.
It wasn't the same comfortable silence as it was with Riley. This was more of a this-is-awkward-there-should-be-conversation awkward. "Well, I'm gonna go. I'll see you around." She waved. I watched her walk behind me and I started to walk after Riley. I found her at her locker.
There weren't many people in the hallway. "Riley." I said as she closed her locker. "Uh, hey." she said absentmindedly as she began searching through her backpack. "What was that about? You seemed upset." I said. Even though Ruby may have not seen it I sure did.
"I'm not upset." She said a bit annoyed. She then closed her backpack and started walking down the hall. Confused I walked after her. Pulling her wrist and turning her towards me I stopped her. "What's wrong. I know you. You're upset." I said.
She sighed. "I don't know. It's just when I saw you walking with Ruby—" "I don't even know her." I said cutting her off. "Not gonna lie she's a bit annoying," I said finally. I saw Riley's eyes lighten a bit. "You were jealous?" I asked. "I don't get jealous." Riley smiled. She began walking away. I smiled at her and left to my class.

"I got the suit for you." Hunter said as I walked in the front door. "Thanks." I said as he followed me into the kitchen. I opened the pantry and began searching for food. "So you and that Riley girl are friends, right?" He asked. I knew where this conversation was going already.
"Yeah." I nodded. Hunter was sort of a player. He only did one night stands and then he'd leave the girl hurt. "So can I get at her?" he asked. I closed the pantry out of frustration. "Hunter, I'm grateful that gave you me a place to sleep but I don't want you around Riley." I said a bit angrily. "Okay man." He said leaving.
Finding some RITZ crackers to eat I left upstairs to my room. Laying on my bed I called began to FaceTime Riley. Once she answered I began to start my homework. "Hey." she said laying on her bed. "How was your school day?" I asked. "It was good." she sighed.
"You sure?" I asked. "Xavier asked me to take him back." she said slowly. I felt my body tense. "What did you say..." I asked. "I told him no." she said. I let go of a breath I didn't know I was holding. "Are those RITZ crackers?" she asked. "Yeah." I nodded.
"You are going to the dance, right?" she asked. "Yeah. I have a suit to match your dress." I pointed out. "Aww that's cute." she blushed. "It's nothing much." I said with a smile of my own. "Riley, dinner's ready." I heard her father say in the background. "Okay. I'm coming." she shouted.
"I got to go. I'll see you tomorrow. Oh and how are we meeting for the dance?" She asked. "Uh, I can pick you up." I suggested. "You have a car?" she asked surprised. "No. I have a license just not a car. Hunter has one though." I said. "Okay. You can pick me up then." She smiled. "I can pick you up around 4:30." I said. "Sweet. See you tomorrow." she waved. "Bye." I said hanging up the phone.
I walked downstairs and into the living room to where Hunter was playing video games. "Do you play anything but Mario Kart?" I laughed sitting next to him. "No." He said giving me a controller. "Can I use your car tomorrow?" I asked logging into the game. "Sure." He said starting the game.
