I sat down at the table with my friends, looking around the table I didn't see Peter. I felt upset at myself because I overreacted. "What's wrong, Riley?"Alyssa asked. "Peter and I had an argument." I sighed. "Is that why he's not here?" Ethan asked. "Yeah." I nodded. "Where is he?" Kevin said. I shrugged.
"What was it about? If you want to tell us." Tracy said assuringly. "It was stupid." I said shyly. "It's okay." Tracy said. "I overreacted when he wouldn't tell me something and we started arguing about and I feel really bad because he was trying to talk to me and I completely ignored him and told him to leave me alone." I said quickly.
"It's okay, Riley. He'll come around." Emily said. "I need to apologize." I said. "Hello fellow teenage waste." Sadie said coming up to the table. "What's wrong with her?" Sadie asked pointing to me. "Her and Peter had an argument." Emily explained. "Hopefully things get better, Riley. You're in my prayers." She said touching her heart.
I laughed a bit at her claim. "Guys, did you know Palmdale had dances?" Sadie asked. "What?" Ethan and Kevin asked. "Yeah there's a dance in two weeks. I think the theme is like a ball or formal or something." Sadie said. "Oooo. I can't wait." Tracy said excited.
"I definitely wanna go." I said. "With Peter?" Alyssa smiled. "No. I'll be surprised if he wants to talk to me in two weeks." I said. "Don't worry. You'll be fine." Kevin assured.

I walked into my house and closed the door behind me. My mom's car wasn't here but Ryker was. "Riley? Is that you?" I heard Aiden's voice from the living room. "Yeah." I called back. "Mom's gonna be home a few minutes and she said she needed to talk to us." He said walking out the living room. "Okay. Was it bad?" I asked. He shrugged and left. I walked up to my room and laid down in bed.
I sighed. I really messed up with Peter. I opened my phone and went to his contact. I was a bit hesitant. Should I call him? What if he doesn't answer? Without really thinking I pressed the call button. It rang for a few seconds then—
"Hey this is Peter-" I clicked the end button. He didn't answer. Laying down I turned and looked at the pictures we took at the fair, which were laying on my bedside table. Picking up the picture strip I felt a smile play on my lips. That day was perfect.
"Riley, Boys. Come downstairs." I heard my mother call. Sighing I got up and went downstairs. Finding my brothers and my mom in the living room sitting on the couch. "Riley take a seat." my mom said cautiously.
She looked on the verge of tears. "Mom, are you okay?" I asked sitting next to her. "Yes, I'm fine. It's just-" she broke off crying. "Mom. Whatever it is it'll be fine." Cameron said hugging her. She shook her head. "What's wrong?" Ryker asked. She then took out a few envelopes from her jacket pocket.
I could see the boys tense up. "What is it?" I asked them. "Mom, is that from..." Aiden trailed. My mom nodded. "Dad?" I asked softly. "What do they say?" Cameron said. My mom gave the envelopes to Ryker and he opened one of them very slowly.
I remember when I was 9 my mom and dad started to fight a lot and I hated it. Then one night when my parents were arguing my dad left. I cried for at least an hour. Then Aiden told me what happened. He said it was good that my dad left because he was cheating on mom.
I didn't really know what to think of my father. I always told my dad I loved him and he gave me everything I ever wanted. But I guess he never loved me or any of us.
"Dear Jamie and the kids, I have written to tell you that my company is failing in money rapidly and we are to believe that it is the neighboring company who we are rivals with." Ryker read out loud.
"But without that in my life there is another problem that I have encountered. I have found out my wife was having an affair with one of my workers and I am divorcing her by the end of the week.
"I am sorry for everything I have put this family through and with consent of you, Jamie and the kids, I am hoping that I will be given another chance to bring this family back together." Ryker finished. I sat there going over the letter in my head. He wants to come back into our lives? After everything he's done?! "No!" I shouted.
"Riley." My mom said worriedly. "He's not coming back. Not after what he's done to you or any of us." I said upset. "Riley, we can work this out." My mom said. "Wait...Are you seriously thinking of letting him back here?" I questioned. I looked over at my brothers. "You guys are too!" I said hurt looking at the expression on their faces. I ran upstairs to my room and laid on my bed.
Why do they want him back? He's heartless and cruel. Is there something I don't know about? I don't want him back here at all.
These thoughts clouded my head. My dad was the only thing I could think about right now.
