<11> Coffee Beans Business

The volunteer work was conducted in perfect order without trial and error because it was the second time in the same village. We worked together with familiar residents to improve the village's environment and spent a lot of time caring for coffee plants and increasing the area of cultivation.

Every evening our topics were centered on the coffee business. At first, when the seedlings were planted on the farm, members and villagers doubted about the outcome. There was also a disagreement over whether to allocate trees for each household or manage farms collectively in the village.

If the coffee plant is assigned to households, each household must manage the trees, harvest the fruits, and sell them. We just need to buy good quality crops. This is a great adventure for people with no business experience. In the end, the residents chose to jointly own, manage share the crops equally. They have worked hard on the farm for the past three years and now have their first crop before their eyes.

As we conducted our second volunteer service in the same village, we agreed that continuous attention and follow-up were more important than a one-time volunteer work. We also confirmed that projects ensuring continuity can attract residents' attention and have great achievements in volunteer work. In response, we decided to apply the way coffee farms are created in Liaobien Village to other areas.

After returning home, we held a tasting ceremony for brewed coffee from the village. Members of the Hidden Valley Club who attended gave a good assessment of the taste and aroma and celebrated the concrete results of the service. I test-sell the coffee at our convenience store and introduced it to other convenience store managers. At first, fewer people were looking for strange products, but as time passed, they were sold at the same rate as conventional coffee. It is expected that there will be little difficulty in securing the market for coffee produced in Liaobien.

We are getting ready to process the coffee beans to be brought in next February. With about three months left, we need to introduce roasting and packaging facilities and learn how to operate equipment. We set up a small space near the convenience store and placed processing equipment there. In the future, In-gyu will operate the equipment and produce products.

Sales may be limited for the first few years because there is no promotion, but we will not lose money because we can sell the remaining inventory to club members. In the future, if profits arise, a certain amount will be used for overseas volunteer work. In-gyu and I got a great job through volunteer work. My nephew will make a rumor that my uncle has become the president of the company, and the rest of the family will look at me from a different angle.

"Have you looked into the roasting machine?"

"I've been looking around some of the stores for prices. It's not urgent, is it?"

"You'd better look into it beforehand. You also have to learn how to handle the machine."

"Anyone who follows the manual will get used to it. Maybe I can master it in a few days."

A month after returning from Laos, Yu-jin came to Seoul in late December. She said she missed me, Yoon-hee, and my niece, and went to Seoul as soon as the winter vacation started. Although we have often said hello to each other, it is better to meet them in person. Only four months had passed before she became bigger and mature as a virgin. She is now said to sleep well and feel at ease.

"How are your parents?"

"They're fine. Dad told me to say thank you. Uncle Sang-ho buying us the crops we harvested. Dad says he's very happy because he can focus on farming without paying attention to sales. In response to the increase in orders, we have added two more vinyl houses to the rice fields that have been harvested."
