THREE
DAYS
BEFOREA day in Manhattan was always something exciting no matter what your life was like. Some people did the same thing every single day; a never ending routine that was in a loop. Even though there were some people in that loop, a majority was living their own lives in a different way. Not even the rain or snow could stop people from carrying on with their day or stop them from getting that warm cup of coffee from the cafe two blocks away. Even though Manhattan was an exciting place to live it did have its difficult moments, like today.
Ariana was currently sitting in her first period of the day; photography. It was an elective she chose that she knew she would enjoy but once the year started to move along the assignments that were given got tougher. It'd be from photo essays to scrapbooks that took weeks to do which was stressful when you had other work to do. This time she was sitting at the front of the room tapping her pencil on her spiral notebook that she just recently got as other people walked in before the tardy bell. Taking his seat right next to Ariana was Jungkook with a cup of coffee in his hand. It being Monday meant he had a cup of coffee and not many hours of sleep.
"Hey kook!"
"Hey Ari." He sipped his coffee and hummed at the taste. "You haven't been at school the last few days everything okay?"
Ariana knew he was going to ask that and avoided making eye contact so he wouldn't discover the lie she was about to tell.
"Yeah I've just been dealing with some stuff. I didn't mean to worry you."
She was actually in Brooklyn helping a friend, that's usually always the reason why she was absent. The long drive there kept her out for a day or two which she didn't mind due to the circumstances.
"It's alright, I'm just glad you're okay."
He then reached into his backpack and pulled out a bag that contained a bagel and a small bowl of fruit. He placed it on her desk and she gave him a soft smile in return. Jungkook would always bring her a treat like that when she was gone from school for a couple of days in hopes of cheering her up when she got back.
"You're always looking out for me."
"That's what a best friend is supposed to do. Now eat your bagel before I do."
Ariana let out a breath she didn't know she was holding when Jungkook didn't even think twice about her excuse she gave. Their teacher said some happy good mornings to some students then got at the front of the room. Everyone in the room knew what was about to happen whenever she got up at the front. The class quieted down as she started to write on the white board and she could hear Jungkook sigh from beside her.
"Alright everyone lets get started. We've had an easy past few weeks but now I think it's time for another project. This time I want you to go out into the city and take ten pictures that describe your thoughts and feelings on the world today. The challenge is your pictures must be taken in other cities other than Manhattan. You can put them in a folder and turn them in between now and two weeks from today. I'll pass out a paper with all the information in just a second."
"Thoughts and feelings on the world. Got any ideas yet Ari?" Jungkook asked.
"Maybe some."
