Three days later
Sunday
Namjoon's apartmentIt had been a long, restless weekend that seemed to drag by the hour. Jungkook was still ignoring Ariana but she didn't blame him for it. She knew there was gonna be a time where he snapped and was done with her and she was kinda surprised it hadn't come sooner. In a way she felt as if she deserved it. She stayed in her room the entire weekend and barely got any sleep due to the constant thoughts of Jungkook being mad at her, what she was gonna tell Miles, how she was going to live with this new responsibility. She had been on the phone with Namjoon and he invited her over to his apartment to help get her mind off things. He was always the friend that anyone could turn to when they were upset or needed advice and he's always been the one that spoke so wisely and sophisticatedly about anything.
They were sitting on his couch in the living room and his mom handed them a bowl of popcorn to share before going into her room to catch up on some reading. Namjoon took a handful of popcorn and told Ariana to take some. It was raining again that day and she wearing one of Jungkook's hoodies that he gave her since he didn't want it anymore, the smell of him lingering on the clothing. It somehow made her heart heavier than it already was.
"Are you okay with talking about what's going on?"
She nodded.
"Where do you want to start?"
She took some of the salty snack and leaned back on a pillow behind her. The rain hit the windows in the living room, the sound accompanying their conversation. "I guess with the beginning." Ariana said. "When I first started ditching all the time."
Namjoon nudged her, a way of telling her to continue. He was all ears.
"About a year ago now, I think. I leave all the time to go help a friend that needs me. Whenever they call and say they need my help I'm already out the door before they can say anything else. I'd do anything for them. Soon it became a consistent thing that made me have to start skipping school a few days a week but there would be times where I wouldn't leave for about a month maybe even two but then it'd start over again. I don't mind doing it, I like being able to help. I did say no sometimes though, it's tiring. Even though there were times that they didn't call me just so I could relax for a bit that would only last for about a month which was when I was actually at school all the time. Jungkook was always wanting to know why I was leaving and the excuses I gave him worked for a while. All he wants is the truth and since I can't give him that he's just completely done with me. I don't blame him either, he needs to be mad at me."
Her voice cracked at the end. She hid her face in her hoodie so Namjoon wouldn't see any tears but the smell of him only made her more upset. Namjoon pulled her into a seating position and made her look up from the hoodie. The look on his face showed how concerned he was for her but tried to stay strong enough to make her feel better.
"It's okay, you don't need to put yourself through this. You need to remember that everyone makes a mistake at some point. He'll come around, he always does. Taehyung is trying to talk to him as we speak so maybe tomorrow things will be different. Jungkook will understand with time."
"You're not mad at me? How can you not be?" Ariana whispered so quietly that the rain almost drowned her words.
"No I'm not. I'm just confused as to what's really going on with you. Is it alright for me to ask you some questions?"
"Yeah of course, what do you want to know?" She took some popcorn to help distract herself.
"Who's this friend you're helping?"
Ariana wasn't sure if she wanted to say his name or if it was even okay for her to. If she said too much it'd give everything away the second the words left her mouth if Namjoon caught on fast enough; so she tried to do everything she could to avoid it. The chance of him figuring it out was unlikely, but she still didn't want to take the risk. Yet again more lies. That's all she ever seemed to do anymore.
