We could run, we really could and so that's what we do. Our hands don't let go of each other as we start at a steady walk gradually picking up the pace until we are almost at a full sprint. There's only masses of empty land covered by snow ahead of us, no obstacles in the way so it's clear for us to see what's beyond the horizon and I see that it's nothing apart from the slowly setting sun but yet I'm afraid to let go of his hand in case if I lose it I'll get lost. Neither of us know where it is that we're planning to run away to but we'll be together and that's all we need to survive. I turn my head to look at him, the wind strongly blowing back his straight, black hair, him smiling and the beautiful sun reflecting in his eyes. He looks determined, he is determined. He's set his mind to find a better future for the both of us. I watch his eyes mirror mine while he sees the blush on my face that I didn't realise was still there so I decide to return to looking forward.
I feel drips of rain gently and quietly fall onto my top eyelashes but then I realise that it's not rain at all but water, falsely pretending to take upon the role of rain. I notice a bird soaring above us, a hawk. It's wings are outstretched revealing various wounds scarring it's body. I take note that it's not blood that seeks it's way out, instead it drips crystal clear water which is what is falling on us. I carefully study the hawk and wonder why it's missing feathers that won't seem to grow back. I wonder if he's seen the bird too and he has.
"Think. What is it that you love? Giving different aspects of the world a beautiful meaning and this is just another one of those situations. The hawk is representing a human, the dishevelled and missing feathers symbolises emotions. If you upset someone they won't ever be the same again, they won't wear the same smile, a piece of their happiness will forever be missing. It's almost the same with the water. Blood is obviously inside your body, right? So it's meaning is that if you look beyond the surface and inside it's clear as water to see that the person is hurting," he explains, "It's so beautiful here, this is where these creatures live. If we keep running, there will be more. Come on." He pulls me along harder by the hand as I stare at him in awe. I know that if I had thought about it a second longer I would've found the answer myself but I admire his skill at assessing things, it's the same as my own which is probably why we understand each other so well. 'There will be more' replays in my mind. What are we running to? I thought he didn't know where we're going but since when in my life have I not had questions running in and out of my head? I look at him. I figure the only answer is to wait and see.
