"Auntie Tasha, Uncle Clint, why does God always take the best people away?

An eight year old Peter Stark stood next to his aunt, Natasha Romanov, and his uncle, Clint Barton, at Queens' city cemetery. Rain crashed down on their shared umbrella as they stood, staring at the four graves placed side by side.

Clint sighed, wrapping a tight arm around his shoulders. "Because of that very reason, bud. It was their time to go," he replied. The young boy sniffled.

"But why did he take daddy?" he asked with blurred vision. Natasha looked down and ruffled his chestnut curls.

"Because daddy deserved to go to heaven. Right, Clint?" she said, eyeing the archer carefully. Clint nodded, making a slight "mhm."

"Exactly. Just like Uncle Bruce, Uncle Steve and Uncle Thor."

Peter gave a slight nod. "So they're in heaven?" he asked with a quiver in his voice. Natasha smiled.

"Of course they are. Now, let's go home, it's getting dark,"

—nine years later—

"Hey Peter, how was school?"

A seventeen year old Peter groaned in frustration as he collapsed onto the couch next to Natasha. The woman raised an eyebrow at her nephew's behavior and set her book down, as well as placing her mug of coffee on the ground.

"Tell me about it," she said, leaning back. Peter rubbed his face, his finger almost getting caught on his septum piercing (that Natasha had finally let him get when he turned sixteen.)

"Miss Forker gave us like a WEEK's worth of homework for us to do this weekend, we had to run twenty laps in gym because this kid named Harry pretended to tie his shoe for five laps. And thennn Mr. Guacamole assigned us a fourteen page essay on the Bronx due on MONDAY. That's literally two freaking days!! And to add on top of all that, Mrs. Pineapple gave us a whole novel to read- that may I add is two THOUSAND pages- in five days."

Natasha laughed at the teen's struggles. She picked up her coffee and took a big swig before placing it down again.

"How about we make Clint pick up takeout while we work on your stuff? Sound good?" she offered. Peter smiled and nodded vigorously, but soon the bright smile fell to a frown.

"Will I have enough time to visit dad?" he asked. Natasha sighed.

"Of course you will, Peter. How about you head there now, and by the time you get back dinner will be here," she replied, ruffling his hair. His smile returned.

"Thanks Aunt 'Tasha!"

Just as Peter was about to get up, the great assassin stopped him.

"Chinese or pizza?" she asked. Peter smirked.

"Pizza. Pepperoni pizza with extra cheese."

-

Twenty minutes later, Peter arrived at the cemetery, four bouquets of flowers clutched tightly in his small hands. He walked through the endless rows of deceased parents, grandparents, and children as he made his way towards his own family.

And there, in front of him were the four graves he knew all too well.

He first went to Bruce's grave. Placing the flowers down and pressing his hand to the tombstone, he said a silent prayer.

Repeating this with Steve and Thor, Peter finally stopped at his dad's, which was the biggest one of the four. He kneeled onto the grass and spread the flowers over the grave.

"Hi dad... I'm back. How's it going up in heaven? Aunt 'Tasha said you're doing great, and that you're happy... I miss you, like a lot. But I aced my chemistry test a few days ago, and I'm pretty sure I did all my math questions right yesterday."

"It's lonely in the tower with just me, Aunt 'Tasha and Uncle Clint. I mean, there are the employees and Happy, but it isn't the same. I helped a little girl cross the street this morning, and I also saved this man from getting mugged after school. "

"Are you... Are you proud? I hope you are, 'cause that's all I wanna do... make you proud. I got my first date in a few days, I'm really nervous. Well, I guess it's not my first date, but it's my first date with a guy. His name is Wade, and he's in my biology class even though he's a senior."

"I guess I have to go now... I have lots of work to do. I'll come back and visit in a couple of days once all of its done."

"Bye dad, I love you."
