My parents and mr. Evans made the biggest party for Lee and Elle, the luau was really magnificent. Everyone was dressed as if we were in Hawaii, there were tables with typical fruits and some exotic drinks.
Everyone was there, even some of my seniors, Joel and Cameron, both had come to spend the summer in Los Angeles. They were studying at Yale, and I had to tease them about our victory over them.
Tuppen, Warren, Dixon and Joe arrived with Debbie and Mia, and came to greet me... it was the first time I met Joe after everything that happened months ago... My heart was beating a little quick and Elle looked a little worried, but inside I knew that everything was settled.
"Hey Flynn, finally the year ended at Harvard huh? We saw your victory in the football championship, congratulations man" Tuppen was very nice to me
"Yes, it's finally over and, thank you, it was a real challenge, all colleges played really well during this season. We did our best and we won." I was happy talking to him about football, even though I knew he had a part of the family that I would never swallow.
Dixon and Warren came to talk to us and Joe was talking to Lee and Rachel. Eventually they came to our side and Joe greeted me, and I tried to act normally. I was not nervous about his presence, in fact I was calmer than I imagined I would be.
"So which colleges did you guys choose?" I was trying to be friendly after all
Tuppen and Dixon had also joined Harvard along with Lee and Elle. Warren was going to Stanford, Debbie to Columbus, and Mia to Yale. Joe was the last one to answer, he was a little nervous, maybe because he didn't knew what I was thinking about him.
"I'm going to Harvard too, Flynn. I went into business administration, and that was always my dream," he finished and gave a rather awkward smile
"It's a good choice, you know, you're going to like Harvard. I mean, you and these two assholes here." I pointed to Tuppen and Dixon who were laughing, and I was glad I did not bother with this news.
The night was really hot, and Elle looked wonderful dressed as a Hula dancer, with those blue eyes and curls in her hair, with a flower on her head. She was dancing with the girls, just looking at me and the boys talking, she was a little worried about me and Joe in the same conversation, but after a while, I think she was calmer as well. I walked over to her and grabbed her waist.
"Hey beautiful, I can't stop looking at you... you were born to be a Hula dancer... this costume is magnificent on you" I whispered in her ear
"You look really hot, too, in those shorts, no shirt and this Hawaiian necklace... oh my God ... if this was not my party, I'd probably be going home, or... maybe to our special place, to see the stars" she turned to me and we kissed.
"We can go there later ..." I winked.
"I'm so glad you were talking to the boys and nothing happened," she had to say that, so Elle...
"I told you everything has changed Elle... I'm no longer that wild idiot, and all the rest is in the past now. I also got the confirmation that Tuppen, Dixon and Joe will be at Harvard next year too." she looked a little worried, but I reassured her. "You don't need to look at me like that Shelly, I always knew he was going to Harvard. You told me once he wanted to, and I'm fine with it... we'll be together, that's the only thing that matters to me." I smiled, she smiled back and kissed me again.
This year the cake was unique, my mother put a Harvard symbol on it, and for the first time I was the first one to hear Elle's birthday wish instead of Lee, who understood and laughed at us.
"All I want is a great year by your side at Harvard, I love you," she whispered in my ear and I gave her a quick kiss. They blew the candles and we all went to sit around the bonfire in the sand, some people were playing and we stayed there feeling the sea breeze.
