Kai's soft melodic voice rings out into the last light of day mingling with the guitar chords. Fish pop out of the small lake as though they were listening to her tune. Gentle waves sloshed against her rock spritzing her face. As the last light of day fades into night, Kai sits in front of the one place she felt safe.

Her cave.

Fifteen candles light the small cozy space. One for each year of her life without knowing her real father. Brightly colored rugs braided from old t-shirts and pillows sewn of old quilts clutter the dirt floor. Scattered among them are scraps of papers with music notes on them.

As the stars begin to peep out of the sky, Kai stashes her guitar back in the cave, and begins the long trek back to her house. The old broken down shack of a home. In fact, the only reason she ever went back there was because of her step-father. His warm smile could light up even the darkest days when my mother was passed out drunk on the couch.

Kai wades out into the shallows, to get to the path in the woods. Her bare feet slip in the mud, getting the hem of her favorite black jeans wet.

By the time she reaches the edge of the clearing where her lake rests, dark shadows have stretched to far above her head. Why did school have to be interesting one time? Kai thought. But granted, she probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't.

Yesterday was Friday, a supposedly normal agitating day of school. It was all good and awful as a school day was, then history class happened.

"You know it wouldn't be so stuffy and tense in here if we had a little fun today!" Mr. Garfield, her history teacher, announced. He had obviously felt the angst everyone was emitting during this last period of school before the weekend. "let's play a game!"

The heads of twenty six high-school students all shot up in an instant. This was the ninth grade, since when do we play games. Kai thought

"This half of the class," Mr.Garfield indicated to the left of the classroom, "will be team one, the other half," he gestured towards Kai's side, the right side, "will be team two."

Kai had slouched even deeper into her seat. Great a group game. She thought once she saw her teammates, She downright scowled.

Jon and Ana sneered back at her. As the Terror Twins, they were bound to make this as miserable as possible. None of the other students were that fun anyways. At least the other team wasn't that equipped for whatever game they were going to play. Depending on the game at least. Most likely they were going to lose whatever the game may be because of the beauty queen they had on their team.

His name was Lucas Zandor, son of Ariana Grande Zandor. His dad was some weirdo that could dance, that's all Kai knew. If looks could kill, he'd have been staked, buried, dug up, then staked again for good measure. Even if his mother wasn't super famous, he still would've been. His talent to sing was immeasurable and his witty jokes and comebacks rolled of his tongue smoother than butter. Lucas' perfectly styled lush chocolate colored hair, clear olive skin, and sky blue eyes made almost any girl blush. And his smile? brighter than all except for Kai's father in her opinion.
