Kai sat up awake in the finally silent limo brushing her hand through Raven's silky hair, who had laid her head in Kai's lap to try to sleep.
Far off, through the windows, she could see lights of a city peeping like stars through the dark night.
Snores echoed from Lucas' nose, making Kai want to suffocate him with one of the pillows from the cabinets above their heads. But she promised to be nice, so she sat, restless, unable to sleep.
"You aren't really asleep are you." Kai whispered to Raven.
"Nope." she replied.
"Is it because of the thing that happened in the dark?" Kai asked hesitantly, worried that Raven would freak out again.
"Yup." Raven said shortly.
"Do you mind telling me? It's not like I have anyone to tell, or the time." Kai said.
Raven sat up and her eyes flashed. "Don't say that, you're going to make it."
"Still, can you tell me?" Kai pushed.
"I was with Morgana." She began, looking off in the distance. "We were in a cave at night fooling around with some spells and talking and such, setting traps for the Romans. When the candle we had been using was snuffed out. We looked at each other and could only see the whites of our eyes. Keep in mind that this was before Gaia had risen completely. We were both startled by a noise outside, so naturally, we went to investigate.
'to our left, behind a tree, we saw a movement. The only thing I could focus on was the figure's hand. White with black veins on the outside like a spiderweb. Terrified, the two of us stepped back towards the cave, which was a mistake.
'thousands of those hands grabbed me from inside and pulled my body into it. Morgana said she didn't get pulled in, which makes sense. The black veins were like Venom, as in from Spiderman, they swarmed my mind, entering my mouth, nose, ears, you name it.
'it burned, not like a stove burn, but like a you got tossed in a fire burn. They infested my mind, hissing things like 'you are mine' and 'to me you listen'" Raven shivered involuntarily, and Kai squeezed her hand. "Later, Morgana and I pieced together that it was Gaia's spirit infecting whatever those monsters were."
"How'd you escape?" Kai asked.
"They left, leaving this." Raven pulled up her shirt to show an X of the black veins on her stomach.
Kai stared, not just because she had an impressive abs, but because it moved like worms crawling through her skin.
"Does it hurt?" Kai winced at the sight.
"Yes." both girls whirled their heads to where Lucas had been snoring his head off a second ago.
"How would you know that?" Raven said with a sharpness in the words.
"It helps me figure out the best way to heal a patient, feeling their pain I mean." He explained.
"You can do that?" Kai asked, wondering if that is how he figured out to postpone her death.
He nodded.
"That sucks, cause like if someone died then you'd feel that. Heck, would you die too?" Raven wondered.
"I don't know." Lucas admitted.
"Gasp* You even say it yourself!" Raven acted fake surprised. Lucas glared daggers at her and looked over his shoulder and yawned.
"Be nice." Kai muttered.
"Aww, but he's so easy to tease! Everything upsets him!!" Raven complained.
"Yes, but have you thought of the reason why? You didn't want people to mock you about the darkness thing, so give him the same courtesy." Kai pushed.
Out of the corner of her eye, Kai sees Lucas smile, like really smile, at her.
Raven scowled at him again, and laid back down on Kai's lap.
A few minutes later, Kai heard soft snores come from Raven's button nose.
"She really must trust you if she fell asleep." Lucas said softly, to not wake anyone.
Kai shrugged sleepily. "Don't let anything happen while I'm asleep." She murmured, closing her eyes.
Right before she drifted off, she heard him say 'never.'
Her dreams twisted into something anew this time.
Raven sat in the middle of a dark circular room, surrounded by seven of the Skinwalkers, the white and black venom beasts.
"Trust me Kai!!" She shouted at her. Kai was looking down on her like in an arena. "Go!!"
Kai couldn't do anything, no matter how hard she tried, to make her dream-body help her, the body disobeyed, and left her behind.
The dream swirled back into the dark throne room of the underworld.
Hades stood over her again saying "It's your fault!!"
Kai sat on the floor of the Poseidon cabin yelling into the fountain as it rejected her call for Raven again via Iris message, sobbing.
Lucas lay in a pool of blood, which then shifted to Raven, then to Nico, Morgana, Loki, Evan, Noah, and some other faces she didn't recognize, but she still felt the grief of seeing their deaths brought her.
The werewolf redhead girl with a pin of a lion on her long robes.
A girl with tanish skin and black hair with black swirls or shadows leaking from her wounds.
Two boys, One with artfully mussed blonde hair, had died with a smirk on his lips. The other looked like a k-pop star with his silver tipped black hair.
"Kai! You're gonna get us KILLED!!" Raven shook her by her shoulders wildly.
"What?" Kai rubbed her eyes, then gasped at the knife of pain shooting through her stomach.
All her thoughts escaped her mind as the pain grew in intensity.
"Move," Lucas pushed Raven aside and his hands warmed like a defibrillator.
He placed his hands over where the pain originated, and it subsided. Sweat had beaded on his forehead and a weariness set in his eyes.
"What did you do?" Kai felt as though he did something that didn't have to do with the pain in her belly.
"You almost just died Kai, you're getting worse." He said once his breath came back to him.
"What you said last night, you feel what I did?" She looked over him, trying to decipher for herself.
He nodded "It's okay, we'll both live for now."
"Wait what!? You did something!" Kai burst out.
"Hey, stay calm, besides," Morgana said from her seat. "All he did was tie your life forces together."
