Platform 9 3/4. Walking through the barrier for the first time wasn't as nerve-racking as everyone else has told me. Then again, I'm not everyone else.

"But what if I'm terrible? What if I don't get enough O.W.L's!"

"Emma! Calm down! You don't have to worry about OWL's until fifth year!" dad said.

"But-"

"Just have fun." mum said, "And make some friends. Don't shut yourself in your books."

"Fine."

"Bye Emma! Bye Neville!" dad called, as Neville and I was walking onto the train.

"Bye Dad! Bye Mum!"

Neville and I sat in an empty compartment and pulled my book out. After a few minutes I heard the compartment door open. I looked up to see who it was.

"Hi! Can I sit here?" she asked.

"Sure." I said politely and turned back to my book.

What would mum say? She would probably want me to 'socialize'.

Sighing, I shut my book and turned to her.

"Hi. I'm Emma Torrett."

"Luna Lovegood." she said.

"And this is Neville." I told her, gesturing towards him.

"Hello!"

"Oh..  a.. hi." Neville said nervously

A boy with white hair opened the compartment door.

"You seem to have captured the attention of a certain black-haired boy with a lightning scar." he said.

"Are you talking about Harry Potter? He's going to Hogwarts?" I asked.

"Yes. Did you not notice? Oh, right. You had your head in a book. Just like that Granger girl... I suppose you'll be in Ravenclaw. Shame it probably won't be Slytherin. Your parents are Eliza and Abban Torret correct?"

"Yes."

"They come from a long line of great pureblood wizards. You would be very welcome in Slytherin." he said. "Oh. By the way, my names Draco. Draco Malfoy."

"Emma Torrett."

"Well, I best be going."

He left the compartment.

"Shame it won't be Slytherin" I mocked, and causd Luna to laugh quietly.

"He's probably only being nice to you because your a pureblood. and your pretty." Luna said.

"You really think I'm pretty?"

"Yeah."

"Well, I certainly don't find that judging someone by their bloodline is completely neccesary."

"Agreed."

When we arrived at Hogwarts, Neville, Luna, and I sat in a boat. When we crossed the water and went into the boat house, Luna and I had to help Neville out of the boat as he kept falling back down.

We walked into the great hall, it was buzzing with excited students.

"It's enchanted to look like the sky outside," I heard a voice say, "I read it in Hogwarts: A History."

I turned around to see who the voice had come from. A bushy haired girl was talking to a boy with red hair, and Harry Potter. He was right. Harry Potter is at Hogwarts.

"Hi!" I said to the girl. "I'm Emma Torrett. I've read Hogwarts: A History as well."

"Nice to know I'm not the only one who's read it." she said.

Harry was looking at me and the red-haired boy was nudging him with his elbow.

"And who are you?" I asked.

"I'm Ron Weasley." the red-haired boy said, "And the one staring at you is Harry Po-" Harry covered Ron's mouth with his hand.

"Shut up!" he said, "Anyway, I'm Harry Potter."

I giggled at Ron's expression, trying to pry Harry's hand off of his mouth.

"Nice to meet you."

The sorting started and Ron, Harry, and Hermione all got sorted inot the Gryffindor house.

Draco got sorted into Slytherin. In fact, as soon as the hat hadn't even touched his head for it to yell, "SLYTHERIN!"

"Neville Longbottom." Proffesor McGonagall called.

Neville walked up nervously and sat down on the stool. The hat pondered and yelled, "GRYFFINDOR!"

I definitely didn't see that coming.

Neville was so relieved, he ran over to the table forgetting to take the hat off of his head. He had to walk back and return it. Kids were laughing and I glared at all of them.

When my name was called, I sat on the stool.

"Hmm.." the hat pondered, "Intelligent, very intelligent. Yet also very brave. I had the same difficulty placing Granger. Yes. I believe.. RAVENCLAW!"

I took the hat off of my head and skipped over to the Ravenclaw table.

Luna got sorted into Ravenclaw.

"Hey Luna!" I said as she came over and sat next to me.

"Seamus Finnigan" Proffesor McGonagall called.

A boy walked up and sat on the stool.

I couldn't hear what it was saying until it shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!"

When the sorting was done, the prefects led us to our dormitories.

Luna and I came into the first year dormitory. Along with a girl named Cho Chang.

I picked a bed next to Luna's and we talked for a bit before going to bed.

She put a special candle on her night stand to keep away something called, "Nargles". Whatever those are.
