"You...are...already engaged?!"
"Yup."
Stiles smirked at me.
"And you didn't tell us?! We're just your best friends since kindergarten."
"We decided that together."
"No excuse. He calls me so I can help him find a ring but then he tells me that he's already engaged."
I made some disapproving sounds which made Stiles laugh.
"Come on, Als. Don't be mad at me. You know I love you."
I sighed. I hated his stupid doe eyes I simply couldn't resist. Scott's puppy eyes were my biggest weakness of course but Stiles' had about the same effect on me as my children had. I wanted to protect him. Sometimes, especially when Scott and I desperately tried to get him to win Malia back, I felt like the three of us weren't best friends but parents and son, Stiles being our son of course. I did never tell him though. Right now I was so proud of him as I was when Rosie and Hope took their first steps.
"Do you already know when?"
"Yeah. It's actually kinda morbid."
"You didn't take your tenth breakup anniversary did you?"
"Uuuuh..."
"Seriously!? Stiles!"
"We thought it was a fun idea and September 1th isn't a bad date either. Also, it's Rosie's birthday."
"You remember the 'I want to be called Kira'-thingy?"
"I do. But even eleven years later it's still weird to say that name..."
"...because you would think about the girl she has her name from."
"Yes. About my best friend, Scott's first love and the reason he almost committed suicide and the sister Malia chose."
"I will never replace her. I know that."
"Als... You are Scott's true love, Mal feels like a sister about you and you always were my best friend. For me Kira was the one replacing you and before he fell in love with her, Scott felt the same. You two are completely different people who had impacts on all of us but we never loved either of you more or less than the other. You saved Scott and Malia."
"Stiles, you did. You stopped Scott from committing suicide so I could meet him again and have this amazing husband. You were the only thing keeping Malia alive through the loss of her best friend and the trouble she had with her family so I could have this amazing best friend. Don't thank me. I should thank you for giving me the chance of having these two amazing people in my life. You kept them alive. I only did a bit."
"Scott didn't smile until he saw you in the halls all those years ago. I hadn't seen him smile in six months. Don't you dare tell me you didn't do much, Allison. I may have saved him that night when he was drenched in gasoline and held a flare in his hand but you were the one to pull him out of his depression."
"And I'm glad I did. I didn't even know what was wrong with him until you told me but he sometimes said stuff like 'you keep me alive'. I thought he was just being dramatic."
"He was completely shocked when he realised you knew."
"You never told him?"
"I wanted to live."
He chuckled.
"When I casually started talking about Kira he looked like I was about to run him down."
"He was always very sensitive about her."
"That's understandable. I mean, she was his first love and she died."
"The night your first daughter was born and Melissa told us that there were complications...you should have seen his face...he was devastated. He was so so scared. He thought he'd lose you too."
