Chapter 15: My Day Ends With A Peaceful Sleep
I woke up to a goat in my face.
“Percy! What is a goat doing in our cabin?!” I yelled. Then I remembered the events of last night. He probably left and didn’t bother to wake me up; or even go near me for that matter. Nobody would. I sighed. This would be a long day.
“I prefer the name satyr, if you wouldn’t mind.” The goat actually spoke. I rubbed my eyes and slapped myself to see if I was really awake. When I opened my eyes, I actually noticed that the ‘goat’ was part goat, torso down, and human upwards. Of course, Tara, no duh. The camp was full of them, and here was one, not a big whoop.
“Sorry, I need to introduce myself. I’m Grover Underwood. The one and only satyr.” He smiled a crooked grin. “Well, not really the only one. There’s more of us…” He scratched his mini afro. He also had horns hidden under the hair.
I was still very baffled. “Why are you here?!” I was about to scream. I didn’t care who he was, he needed to tell me why he was here. He put up his hands respectively. “I was sent here to escort you to Rachel… but you were still asleep. I hope you realize it’s almost lunch. In like an hour.” He held out his hand to help me from my bunk. I was so confused and befuddled no words could describe it. I was suddenly ticked off at Percy.
He was supposed to wake me up. I was supposed to go to breakfast. I was supposed to apologize to everyone for freaking them out. I was supposed to… you know what? Percy is probably worried about me. Everyone probably is. So let them, I don’t care. They can try to find out my problem all they want, but it’s so deep on the inside, they’ll never find it.
I accepted the gesture and rose to my feet. I hope Rachel doesn’t mind me being in my Batman pj’s, cause I wasn’t changing. People already judge me, so I didn’t care. This new spirit of not giving a damn felt really good, actually.
“Lead the way.” I let him go by and followed to the Big House. On the way there, I did notice only a few glances at me. But they weren’t looking at my pj’s. They watched me carefully as if I could turn into some freak hurricane and banish them all. Which I guess I really could, if I wanted to. But those powers and freakish abilities only come with an anger surge. And for now, none were here. That’s probably a great thing.
“Hey Grover! Waddup Tara?” Rachel was sitting on the porch, smiling like always. Although when she stole a weary glance in my direction, I noticed she was frowning slightly. It made my stomach churn. And not just because I hadn’t eaten lunch yet. It was some sort of sense. I could tell she was studying me like Annabeth studied her artifacts. I seemed to less of a person, and more of an experiment. A lab rat. She had something planned.
“So, Rachel, what did you need to talk to me about?” I shifted uneasily. Grover hightailed it out of here and that just left us. She sat on a couch and smiled. But it was forced. “Grover said it was very important.”
