Chapter 19: Who’s The Damsel Here?
Khione had my weakness in the palm of her hands.
My first instinct was to lunge at him, but Khione barely lifted a finger and my feet froze in place. I was helpless, and I couldn’t save Leo no matter how hard I tried. I felt tears surfacing as she knelt down beside him and rolled him over so I could see his face. It looked sickly pale, and he was shivering, both are not good signs.
“I would say I’m sorry, but I’m not. We both know that. You don’t even know how long I’ve waited for this.” She dragged her knife across his cheek, a small bit of blood rose to the surface. I wailed in protest.
“Leave him alone!” I begged as tears raced down my face.
“Why are you crying, my dear? Is he not pathetic and worthless to you? Oh, I’m sorry, I’ll just leave him be.” She said sarcastically. “Except I can’t. Not after the humiliation he put me through! And such a despicable thing as fire, I cannot believe you ever had any interest at all in this clumsy fool.” She held up the dagger, ready to strike.
“No! I’ll- I will join you. Just leave him be! Don’t mess with him! He’s my ally, my friend. And they don’t let others get harmed.” I was willing to do this, for him. He was the greatest friend I could ever ask for, and I wouldn’t let her destroy him.
“Wise choice, my dear.” She lowered the knife, and my insides felt less crammed up. “But you must know that his suffering will keep you faithful by my side, as long as I have his blood shed on my very own hands.” She raised the dagger again and came down right above his heart.
“NO!” I shouted, but my tears blurred up my vision.
I heard Khione yell in rage, “How dare you!” and then a clash of metal. I cleared the water from my eyes and saw the scene before me.
My mother had come out of nowhere and was battling the goddess. But she didn’t carry any weapons, nor a shield. She was muttering things aloud. And the second she’d finish, curses seemed to be thrown at Khione.
She was wailing in outrage as icy daggers she’d summoned backfired and came to her. All of her powers seemed to be jumbled up, and she couldn’t find the right things to do or say. As for my mom, she was swinging out spell after spell.
A sorceress.
Of course. That’s the reason why I was safe all those years. My mother had probably put some sort of charm or spell on us.
“Tara! I will get rid of her, but you must get you and your friend to safety. The house is protected with a charm, go there and stay until I have come back, don’t open the windows! Or the doors!” She shouted between attacks.
