Chapter 25: Seriously Bad Luck

Ok, I understand that I am a powerful demigod, but can’t I ever have a tiny bit of good luck? The Fates must really hate me, that’s my guess.

I woke up right when I was supposed to, and I felt wide awake. Immediately I jumped from bed and threw on clothes, brushed my hair and teeth, and then rushed downstairs. I was ready to get back to my cabin, and see my friends.

“Morning, Sunshine.” Zyra was up bright and early with me, probably to wave goodbye. Today was the 20th, and I was going back to camp.

“Thank you so much and for everything.” I shook her hand, it was warm. I then hugged her, grabbed my bags, and started walking through the door. Outside, I went to the apple orchard and whistled for Blaze. He showed up munching on a donut.

Hey, Priss! Nice to see you again! He seemed to be in a happy mood.

“Yeah, yeah. Now, how did you know I needed help the other day when we’re being attacked?” I quirked my brows.

He scraped at the dirt. Oh, you know. I just kinda sensed it. I can read your thoughts, remember? I wasn’t buying it. He gave in. Fine, your daddy told us to stop by and see how you were doing, and it’s wasn’t so good after all.

I smiled. That was good enough for me. I silently said a small thank-you to Poseidon. He was probably the best dad I could ask for. “On another note, you ready to fly?” I asked. The Pegasus snorted as if saying; uh duh.

I hopped onto his back, and threw my bag across my shoulder, keeping it safe by me. I had put a few newspapers and letters including the one written to me inside of it. I really hoped that it would be safe with me, and not ruined.

Blaze began to trot, then faster and faster until we lifted into the air. It was my third or fourth time flying, I should’ve been a pro. I wasn’t even a beginner at this point. I slightly screamed as we lifted upwards, and suddenly found myself gripping tightly onto the horse. He made a choking sound, so I loosened up my grip.

So, uh, are we going to be attacked? I’m usually expecting it, but I just want to know. Blaze said inside of my head.

“No, I don’t think so. Zyra-“ He cut me off.

Who’s Zyra? He asked.

“She’s the lady that took care of me, my adoptive mother.” I answered. “So, as I was saying, Zyra made a potion that hides my scent from gods and monsters. It makes me smell mortal. And no monster pays attention to mortals.” I said.

He snorted, seeming confused. You smelled the same to me, if not stronger, actually. Whatever she did, I can’t smell the difference.

I gave him a confused look. “Well, you must not be able to smell it. I mean, you are Poseidon’s sacred animal. I wouldn’t be surprised if you can’t smell me. You aren’t a foe, you’re my friend. So that’s my guess.”
