Unexpected Love

Chapter 15

Elizabeth's POV
"Maryse.The Clave has ordered me to take temporary control of this Institute." Lydia says walking past Alec and I as I stare at her in shock

I had a bad feeling about her. Maryse looks completely shocked and slightly nervous.
"Wait a minute.Nobody informed us." She says and Lydia shrugs
"The Clave doesn't need to.And, to repeat myself, it's temporary.Nothing's been decided yet.But I do need full clearance in order to assess how this Institute is running.Where is Clary and Elizabeth Fairchild? I would hope someone here knows."

"She's in the field, training. I'm Elizabeth" I say and Lydia looks at me with a distasteful look.
"You're telling me she's just out and about in the streets of New York? Valentine's daughter? And you need to stay here and be supper used"

"I am not a child to be supervised and I can leave if I want to" I said glaring but Alec shakes his head placing a warning hand on my shoulder

"Isn't she also your cousin?"

"Distant cousin." Lydia says with a fake smile

"She's with Jace." I say and she looks at me with a raised brow. "The same Jace Wayland who decided to lead an unsanctioned raid against the vampires? I've read reports." She says and I glare

"That unsanctioned mission saved my life" I growled and Maryse gives me a harsh glare
"Jace might be unconventional, but he's our best soldier.If he's with Clary, then she's in good hands." She says

"I hope so.And for your sake, all of New York
All of your jurisdiction better be well protected" she says smirking slightly at us

I glared at her as she walked away before turning my attention to Alec and Maryse. "Elizabeth what you have done is unacceptable. How dare you disrespect an envoy from the clave?" Maryse says and I scoff

"Just because my mother is missing doesn't mean I need a replacement Mrs.Lightwood" I said harshly as I walk off to my room

Locking the door I leaned against it closing my eyes. Taking out my phone I quickly called Clary. "Hey Liz what's up?" She says and I sigh

"Don't suggest coming back to the institute. An envoy of the clave is here and she is a total bitch" I said and she sighs

"Ok Liz I'm busy about to talk to Simons mom I'll call you back" she says quickly hanging up. I leaned down on my bed

A couple knocks were heard but I ignored them. I was not in the mood for people right now

I thought back to my mom remembering her bright red hair likes Clary's and how she was always making sure I had the hardest training while shielding Clary from everything

I loved being a Shadowhunter. As I said before it was one of the very few things I like about myself but there were times I wish I wasn't

I wish I was a normal mundane sometimes. I sighed as a few more knocks were heard on the door

"Who is it?" I yelled before getting up. "It's Alec" I freeze momentarily but open the door either way looking up at him

"Is something wrong?" I asked and he shook his head. "No I um just wanted to see how you were doing after what happened between you and mom" he says rubbing the back of neck awkwardly

"I'm fine" I said blankly and he frowns. "I can see you El. Even when other people believe your mask you put on. I see you. I see how you're hurting and it pains me that I can't do anything about it" he says placing his hand on my cheek as he looked at me with a caring expression on his face

"Don't" I said feeling tears well up in my eyes. I pushed his hands off as I looked away. "You made your feelings clear Alec. Things like this just make me want you more a-and they confuse me and I don't want to get hurt by you again" I said softly

" I never meant to hurt you El" he said gently and I forced a smile looking at him. "Well you did" I said

"I'm going to head out. I'll be back in an hour or so" I said grabbing my stele and a seraph blade. I had the whip Izzy gave me around my wrist but I thought the more the better so.....

Alec didn't say anything as he stood in front of my room looking down. I walked past him and out the institute doors as I glamoured myself

I just needed time to myself I guess

Deciding it was best if I head out back to the institute I decided to walk back seeing how the sky was turning dark

That was until I was pushed into a wall roughly. I banged my head extremely hard before feeling a warm liquid trail down the side of my head

"Ouch" I grit out to the person in front of me. They didn't show their face staying hidden in the shadows so I grabbed around their neck turning us around

It was a demon. "Shadowhunter" it hissed out. "Dude if your going to walk around as a mundane at least buy some tic tacs" I said feeling their disgusting breath fan my face

I reached for my seraph blade plunging it into the demon but not before its tentacles buried themselves in my side making my stele fall out and break as it smashed on the floor

I hissed in pain as it disintegrated.

Ugh my head hurts

And my side

My life hurts at this point

I rolled my eyes as I began to dizzily continue my walk back to the institute. By the time it arrived my vision blurred and my breathing was fastening

"Izzy im telling you she said she would be back in an hour and she isn't back yet! We even went to hunters moon, investigated, came back for a few hours and she still isn't back!" I heard Alec say

"Uh hey" I wheezed out smiling weakly at Alec and Izzy once I reached them. "Liz what happened?" Izzy says

"Uh can we Uh can we get hodge or someone? I need an ira-" I didn't finish my sentence as I lost my balance but Alec grabs my waist lifting me up and holding me bridal style

"How long ago were you attacked?" He asked and I shrugged. "I don't know" I said crying out softly as Alec's hand brushed the demon bite

He peels my shirt up and his eyes widened in panic. "Oh by the angel. Izzy she has demon venom! Pass me a stele" he says quickly and she quickly does as gold as Alec draws a fresh iratze on my skin

After a few minutes I felt a lot better as I looked up at Alec. "Thanks guys" I said leaving Alec's arms as Izzy places a hand on my shoulder

"What happened?" She asks and I shrug. "A demon attack. Not a big deal" I said and Alec laughs dryly

"No big deal? You could've died if you didn't get here in time!" Alec says. "Alec calm down" Izzy says and he shakes his head

"No Izzy! She acts as though her almost dying isn't a big deal. As if she had no one who cared about her! Do you know what would happen if you died Elizabeth?!" He says raising his voice slightly

"Alec you do not get to do that! Getting hurt is part of the job. There is a chance we could die on any mission or anytime we leave this damn institute!" I said glaring at him

I gave Izzy's arm a small squeeze before storming off to my room pushing past Alec

Once I got there a few minutes later more knocks were heard on the door

Knowing it was Alec I got up rolling my eyes. "Look Alec I am not in the mo-"
