****Whitney's POV****

"You got stuck with Mariah?! She's like....the worst of the Carey kids!" my friend Janet said, dramatically throwing her hands in the air. It was the end of the school day and I was by the lockers with my two best friends, telling them all about how I got stuck with Mariah for the big assignment in English class.

"She's so bad that the rest of the Carey kids are afraid of her! And those kids aren't afraid of anything!" Céline added.

"I know, I know! Ugh, of all the people Mrs. Johnson could've assigned as my partner.....she chooses to give me Satan? Why me?!" I exclaimed, still upset that I was the unlucky pick.

"You're not inviting her over your house to work together, right?" Céline questioned with concern.

"God no!! She'd burn the whole neighborhood down!" I replied, shaking my head.

"Are you gonna go to her house, then?" Janet asked.

"First of all, are we sure Mariah even has a house? As dirty as she and her siblings always are, you'd think they were living out of a trash can!" Céline said.

"True, but at least she doesn't smell bad. Mrs. Johnson gave us the last five minutes of class to exchange contacts, and Mariah doesn't smell bad at all....she actually smells really good. She isn't gross or anything....she and her siblings just look dirty." I explained.

"Well, I still wouldn't go to her place if I were you. I mean, do those kids even have parents? They're like a bunch of wild monkeys!" Janet frowned.

"My mom says that Mr. Carey caught a train to Boston for 'work' shortly after Gianna was born, but that he never came back." Céline shrugged.

"My aunt says that, too. And, Mrs. Carey is always at work....I heard that she works like 16 hour shifts everyday, just so she doesn't have to be at home with the kids." Janet added.

"Well, I don't kno-" I started, but was interrupted by the sound of a locker slamming shut behind us.

"Y'all bitches got anything else to say 'bout me?!" the familiar voice growled. We turned around to see Mariah standing there, her face and ears red with anger and her fists balled up.

"Uhm, n-no...." Janet whispered.

"Nuh-uh."Céline said.

"Good. 'Cause I don't like spoiled bitches who gossip about me and my family, and you both know what happens to people I don't like, yes?" Mariah spat, walking up and getting in the two girls' faces.

"We-"

"You remember what happened to Lopez, don't you? She stole from me, and then she 'accidentally' fell down the main stairs. You wouldn't want that to happen to y'all too, would you?!" Mariah continued, backing my two friends against the locker.

"Mariah, I-I don't think they meant any harm." I nervously said as I touched her shoulder, my voice cracking and telling of my nervousness. Mariah turned and looked at me, narrowing her eyes, then she turned back to Céline and Janet.

"Next time, watch your fucking mouths!" Mariah growled at them, then she faced me again.

"And you! Keep a muzzle on your little friends. Everybody can't be spoiled, privileged little bitches like y'all." she told me.

"Okay." I whispered, and she responded with a devious grin.

"Good. Now, I gotta go." Mariah stated, and I looked at her in confusion.

"But, I thought we agreed to work in the library on the first part of the assignment today?" I asked her.

"We did, but there's been a change of plans. I gotta get home today." Mariah shrugged.
