****Olivia's POV****
"I really wanted to nail that bastard Velez myself." Alex frowned, followed by finishing the last of her drink. We had just had a really hard case where a Colombian cartel had been connected to the rape and murder of an undercover agent, Livia Sandoval, and it had taken the biggest toll on Alex. Over the course of investigating and trying to build the case to present to the courts, Alex's home address, her mother's address, and phone number had somehow gotten in the hands of Rafael Zapata, the man responsible for murdering Livia. Alex still didn't back down from the case, and she had finally connected Zapata to Livia's murder, only to be forced to dismiss the charges against Zapata so that the feds could pursue him for other crimes instead.
"I know, you did Alex. But, Velez is a dangerous man.....even more dangerous than Zapata. The NYPD doesn't have nearly enough resources and man power to build a strong case against him." Elliot explained.
"Yeah, it was best that the feds took over the case." I sighed.
"They took over for the bombings Velez, Zapata, and the others in the cartel are responsible for. But what about Livia Sandoval? She was raped, strangled to death, and dumped like trash.....and yet, she gets no justice. We say we're the voice of the victims, but we're not...." Alex frowned.
"We can't win them all, Alex." Elliot stated.
"That's the thing. Even the cases we 'win' aren't really wins for the victims. I mean, sure, their perps get punished but.....the victims still have to live with what happened for the rest of their lives. They are never the same, and this 'closure' we try to bring them is nothing more than a comforting myth." Alex told us, her head hanging down.
"It's a never ending cycle....." she continued.
We all just looked at each other, thinking about what Alex had just said, and we sat in silence as her words weighed on our minds.
"Let's get out of here." Alex said, breaking the silence. She got up and so did we, then we all walked out of the bar.
"Do you need us to give you a lift?" I asked.
"No, I mean....we're just down the street from the hotel I've been staying in, so I can just walk." Alex weakly smiled. Elliot was about to say something to Alex, but before he could, an SUV drove past and starting firing shots in our direction.
"GET DOWN!" Elliot yelled as they fired, and I hit the ground taking Alex with me. The SUV sped off and Elliot got up running after it, while I pulled myself up and dusted myself off.
"Alex?" I asked. I turned to see Alex still lying on the ground, so I knelt down next to her to see blood rushing out of her shoulder at an alarming rate.
"No, no, no, no.....Alex...." I cried, trying to apply pressure to her wound.
"L-liv...." Alex mumbled, barely conscious.
"It's okay, baby girl....y-you're okay...." I whispered, trying to convince myself of that.
"Elliot!! Please call for a bus! A-Alex was hit, a-and I can't stop her bleeding!" I shouted, noticing that Elliot was running back towards our direction. He pulled out his phone to call, then I looked back down at Alex to see that my hands were drowning in her blood and that her eyes were closing.
"A-alex? Stay with me, baby.....come on....." I desperately cried, but her eyes closed and her head limply turned to the side.
"N-no! Alex, w-wake up!! WAKE UP, DAMN IT.....YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!" I screamed.
"Pl-please don't do this, Alexandra! Pl-please.....d-don't leave me....."
