I am stunned. Can't breathe, let alone take my eyes off him. And her.
"Ren." My voice sounds bleak, and I let my heart go as cold as the air outside the coffee shop.
"________? Are you okay?" Ren asks, confused at my tone. The girl close beside him watches me with large, doll eyes, leaning her weight on one leg and placing a hand on her hip.
"I guess I'm early?" I say. Ren's eyes follow mine to the girl, and his mouth opens in protest.
"_______ you know it's not like that" He says, stepping forward, towards me and away from her. He reaches out to graze my arm but his other arm is held back firmly by the girl's long pale arm.
"No. Just no" I say, turning away and walking quickly.
"_______!" Ren calls out. I'm out of sight, and when I look back, Ren doesn't appear. I make my way home, walking slowly around the streets. I have my umbrella open and ready when the rain starts, falling straight down from the lack of wind. By the time I wander up my drive way, there is a figure at the door, leaning on the wall with their face in their hands.
I get my keys ready and walk up to the door, ignoring Ren's presence.. I shove my key into the lock, but Ren wraps his arms around me, holding me in place but not speaking.
"Let go, it's cold out here" I request, and Ren's grip tightens.
"I won't shut the door on you, so let me go" I feel Ren's arms loosen, slipping off my shoulders but gripping the edge of my coat tightly. It reminds me of our other dates, and how adorable Ren is when he gets jealous or protective, causing him to cling to any part of my clothing so he knows I am close. I finally get the door open and walk inside, Ren trailing behind me.
Ren's arms close around me again, and I smile slightly.
"Didn't get very far inside, did we?" I say, and from instinct I hold his arms there.
"What do I say _______, help me"
"Just say the word, I'll believe you" I state.
"She was a friend of mine in high school, but I had to cut her off because she kept lying to me as well as telling everyone we were dating, which we weren't"
"And now that you're even prettier than before she wants you back?" I finish, wriggling out of his hug.
"But I like you not her, So so can we not fight?" He continues, pulling me back into him anyway.
"I'm not letting go either way" Ren admits, locking his hands together.
"Alright, alright. But if I see her again she's the one in trouble"
