I had to sit in the principal's office for half an hour, listening to my mom telling him about what was going on between Scott and I.

I had to watch the principal's face contort from disbelief, to surprise, to rage that this had been going on right under his nose.

The disappointment on his face was enough to make anyone want to shrivel up and die. He looked ashamed on both mine and his part.

But then there was sympathy on his face, and he patted my shoulder before calling the police, and I was confused as to why.

-

"Mitch, you don't have to lie on Mr. Hoying's part. It's okay that you don't want him to get arrested, but taking advantage of a student is unacceptable. Just tell us what he did to you, and he will be sent to jail and you will be safe again," The police man said. I looked around at everybody who was in the room with us, and they all looked sympathetic and pitiful. Or on Jonah's part, he still looked smug.

"I love him, and he loves me, " I snapped, and I saw the police man's jaw tighten. "The only person I'm not safe from is Jonah-"

"Mitch, it appears that Mr. Hoying has brainwashed you. I just want you to know that you don't have to be afraid of him anymore because when we're done here, he will be arrested. Tell us, did you and him partake in sexual intercourse?" His eyes were searching my face, and I knew that he had years of training in detecting lies from people he was talking to. But I had taken after my father in this, and I was a good liar. It had helped out a lot when I used to hang out with Jonah and they needed free stuff from stores and dealers and whatnot.

I looked him straight in the eyes and made sure not to twitch or fidget.

"No. Him and I never did anything sexual. Ever," I said. He searched my face some more and then nodded, and I knew he believed me.

"Okay, that's good. His time in jail may be lessened, but that doesn't excuse the fact that he was manipulating you-"

"He was not manipulating me. Him and I have something together, and there's nothing wrong with it," I said. I honestly couldn't believe how dense these people were, it's like they were trained to be stupid. I could see strained patience on his face. He opened his mouth to say something, and then sighed. He turned to my mother.

"It's a good thing you alerted us before your son was victimized to anything else. Is he still a minor?" He asked her. My mom blinked at him and then shrugged. I had to stop myself from yelling at her.

She had forgotten my birthday. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, own mother, who I had nearly lost all hope for, didn't even know my birthday. I had to keep my anger in check. I couldn't burst, because I didn't want the police and principal to have an even bigger reason for pitying me.

"Officer?" I said. "I turned 18 yesterday. So no, I'm not a minor." He said nothing, but I saw him write it down on his notepad.

-

I had to watch Scott be escorted out of his house into a police car, and that was when my whole world tumbled down on me.
