Lydia had been dating Jackson for several years now. They had met at school, she had seen him try out for lacrosse. He was so gorgeous she remembered that she couldn't take her eyes off of him, she knew from that exact moment, when their eyes finally met, that she had to talk to him. Ever since she had been so confident walking up to him on the field, in front of all his mates, complimented his lacrosse skills and asked him if he'd like to go out some time. He seemed hooked on her instantly especially after their first date.
As soon as they got together, people were different around them, people almost idolised them. They were the "it" couple and she knew it. Lydia wasn't stupid. She could see how girls (and even some boys) would look at Jackson and her being with him. She almost liked making them jealous. Their dumbfounded faces when she kissed him or hugged him in the halls.
Although, recently Lydia had noticed that they didn't really communicate or kiss or hug outside of school anymore, almost as if it was a whole big set up. It made her so sad to see them become this way. They weren't always like this. Her and Jackson used to be so close but now, he barely acknowledged her presence outside of school or even cared if she was there. And she loved him so much she didn't really remember what it was like without him in her life. She'd been to his house loads of times, his family knew her well and they all loved her, well i mean apart from one.
Lydia shook her head to snap out of her daydreaming. She was in her last period and lucky for her it was English. She loved English; it was one of her favourite subjects. She eagerly looked away from the scene from Romeo and Juliette that was being explained on the board and towards the clock. Yes. There was only 5 minutes left. As much as she loved this subject. She'd done this a thousand times already and knew it inside and out. Plus, she was going to go to Jackson's after school and she looked forward to seeing him, like she did every day, but especially on Fridays.
The bell rung obnoxiously loud and she quickly packed her stuff up and raced out the door before anyone else. She looked around the halls but there was no sign of Jackson. She sighed heavily. Why did she keep looking for him after class? He used to do it all the time when they first got together but now he barely sat with her at lunch. She headed for her car but, before she could get in, someone ran up to her and hugged her. It was Allison. Her best friend in the whole world. She was much taller than Lydia and had long beautiful wavy black hair that fell around her face perfectly. Her slim frame, radiant smile and sweet, care free personality made her a guy magnet but she always only had her eye on one.
"LYDIAAA! i haven't seen you all day where were you at lunch?" Allison exclaimed while standing back from her. Lydia avoided her eyes. She didn't want to admit to Allison that she spent all of lunch crying in the toilets because Jackson had yelled at her for trying to hold his hand when he was talking to his mates. "Oh...erm...sorry Ali i was in the library. I just had to check out this thing about the Riemann Hypothesis." Lydia scoffed, hoping she sounded believable. Although, Allison always seemed to see through it. "Hmm...okay if you say so Lydia." Allison eyed her suspiciously before shrugging and moving on to something else.
"Where you off anyway?...Oh wait...please tell me that you're not off to that slimeball's house again?!" Allison scolded her and crossed her arms over her chest. Allison had hated Jackson ever since she had met him and no matter what Lydia said about him that was never going to change. "Allison.." she replied softly with a sigh. She knew how she felt about the situation.
"I'm sorry Lydia it's just... you know how i feel about him. He's an arsehole and an annoying one at that! and you deserve so so much better than that sleaze! I mean he literally pays no attention to you anymore! The only things he cares about is how good he looks and lacrosse." Allison said angrily, she always got so worked up over Jackson.
"Allison we've been over this...you just don't know him like i do. He does love me i swear, he's just got a funny way of showing it." Lydia replied, sounding like she was trying to convince herself more than Allison. Allison sighed heavily. "For fuck sake Lydia, you say that to me every time i bring it up or every time he's horrible to you. You can only keep telling yourself that a certain amount of times before you're just basically justifying him psychologically abusing you. You know that don't you?" Allison stared deeply at her with that look she knew too well by now. It was the look that basically screamed 'You know deep down i'm right.' She hated it.
Lydia shrugged and decided to ignore her, as she usually did when her best friend was telling her what she needed to hear. "Well anyway Ali i'm off now, so i'll text to you later okay?" Lydia said nonchalantly while opening her car door and hopping in. Allison sighed again and cursed under her breath before speaking. "Dammit Lydia. Okay okay see ya later love youuu!" Allison shouted, with her hands around her mouth to make herself heard, as Lydia drove off. "Love yaaa too girly!" She shouted back before pulling out of the school driveway and heading to Jackson's.
