I lead Krieger out to the field. It all looked different at night, the only light we had was from the moon. Pin and I were depending on our horses to be able to see through the darkness. Krieger and I had been riding throughout the night before...with Pin.
I pulled the reins over Krieger's head as we stood at the starting line. Pin was mounted on his chestnut as i mounted Krieger. Everyone was crowded around us as we began to ready for the race. I tightened the reins and shot Pina glare.
"Are you sure about this?" I asked.
"Scare to lose?" He asked.
"More like scared to lose a friend" I shrugged. Pin swallowed and turned to the front of the race. Krieger stepped side to side, knowing exactly what we were about to do.
"Ready!" Mia called from the sidelines.
"Set!" Marcus called after her.
"Go! Gabby screeched.
I gave Krieger a kick of my boot heel and he took off in a thunderous gallop, the noise in the background was drowned out by the noise of the hoof beats and snorts from the horses. I watched Pin through the corner of his eye and he tightened the reins at the sight of the first jump, a small double layered log jump that stood at just less then a metre. Krieger launched over the jump and landed with a clap on the ground. I gave him a small pat with my hand. We rounded the small turn leading to the second jump, the bright colours could be seen through the dark and I knew this jump consisted of show jumping poles. As Krieger took sight of the jump his pace fastened and as much as I wanted to calm him and pull him back I couldn't, I had to trust him because right now he was my eyes, he could see clearer then I could and the moon was starting to move behind the clouds spread along the sky.As the course began to lead us onto the beach, Pin was beginning to take the race. In only a few minutes Pin had pulled his horse to a stop and was calling me back.
"Easy boy" I said calmly leading him back to Pin warily.
"Can we talk please?" He asked. I slightly nodded. I could just make out his grey/green eyes through the dark.
"I didn't tell Zoe when I got back because I'm completely in love with her" he said honestly. Those words hit me hard, I fell in love with him and he fell in love with her.
"I'm sorry Brooklyn, but she means everything to me" he said sincerely. I could feel a tear fall on to my cheek but if I wiped it away he could tell I was crying so I sat there and let another one fall onto my cheek. I eased Krieger back into a gallop, Pin calling after us but once we got started Krieger and I became unstoppable just like we used to. I could see the small crowd hovered around the starting/finishing line. I turned to look over my should and I spotted Pin, getting closer but not close enough as I rode over the line.As I pulled Krieger to a stop I dropped the reins and wrapped my arms around his neck, giving him a good pat.
"Good boy" I smiled.
I slipped off of his back knowing right now he deserved a carrot and a big rest.
"Good job!" Callum called hugging me.
"Thanks" I forced a smile.
"I'm going to go cool him down" I said leaving the small group that surrounded me.I lead Krieger back to the stables, needing alone time for a moment. The lights glowed in the stables I cooled Krieger down, groomed him and placed a thin cotton blanket over to protect him from the cold nip in the air. I made up a mix of molasses, oats and water in a bucket before heading to Krieger's stall and feeding him. He snorted at the sight and dove straight in barely giving me a chance to put the bucket in his feed bin.
"Congrats!" Gabby called leaning over Krieger's stall door.
"Thanks" I forced a quick smile before turning back to the gyre who munched at his treat.
"You guys were out there for a while..." she started.
"It was dark, we both got s little lost" I shrugged.
"Will Zoe believe that?" Gabby asked.
"It's the truth" I shrugged.
I stepped out of the stall making sure to lock the door.
We were all gathered outside of the stable, Pin had his chestnut tied to a railing a few feet away.
"Are we done playing?" I asked looking down at the ground.
"No, it's just getting fun" Mia smiled.
Everyone was munching on the boxes of pizza they had brought with them.
"Mia's turn then" Gabby giggled.
"Truth or dare?" Gabby asked.
"I don't have anything to hide so Truth" Mia shrugged.
"Do you still like Marcus?" Gabby asked raising an eyebrow at the suddenly red in the face girl.
"Don't lie Mia" Callum chuckled beside me.
"Yeah" she said quietly with a nod, Marcus's eyes widened at the realisation.
"Callum, Truth or dare" Mia said her voice almost demanding that she get revenge.
"Dare" He replied.
He chose dare and a part of me knew it was because he had something to hide, I couldn't help but look up at him with a questioning look.
"Why not Truth?" Susie asked.
"Because some of us don't need a game of Truth or dare to be honest" he shrugged.
"By the look on Brooklyn's face she doesn't know the truth, now does she?" Pin asked.
Callum entwined his hand in mine and gave it a reassuring squeeze. I was angry, furious. Pin was attacking Callum when he knew I had more dirt on him then he had on Callum.
"Does Zoe know the truth?" I asked.
"What Truth?" Zoe asked looking in between Pin and I.
"Are you going to tell her or am I?" I asked raising an eyebrow at him.
"Pin and I met a month before Christmas, before he came back" I mumbled.
"So?" Jade asked.
"We weren't just friends" I explained trying to piece it together without saying the words. Zoe took an immediate step away from Pin.
"Zoe" he mumbled with a small sigh. Zoe mounted Pin's horse taking off in a gallop.
"Zoe!" Her friends called after her.I ran back into the stables and mounted a bareback Krieger. The only thing he had was the cotton blanket that I knew was going to annoy me. I gave him a small kick and he took off in a gallop after the chestnut. I could still spot Zoe's pink jacket in the dark barely keeping sight of it. The wind was beginning to howl in my ears.
"Zoe!" I yelled after her. I lost sight of her as she rode through the trees and onto the beach. As Krieger galloped onto the beach I began to slow him down. He came to a stop and the white lines of the waves crashing onto the beach was all I could see. The moon fell behind the clouds and the wind was pushing through my jacket.
"Does he love you?" A voice called from behind. Further down the beach I could make out Zoe's pink jacket.
"No Zoe, he's in love with you" I replied. I followed her movements and slid off of Krieger's back. He gave a soft nicker before turning to the small patch of grass.
"How do you know?" She asked with a sob wiping away a tear.
"He told me" I couldn't help but let the tear slip down my cheek.
"Do you love him?" She asked.
"I don't know, I hope not, but I'm not sure" I shrugged trying to wipe away the tear and strengthen my voice from the high pitch it had suddenly become.
"If I knew Zoe, I swear I wouldn't have" I cried.
"I didn't know" I added.
"But he did" she mumbled quietly. When I arrived back at the stables the crowd was gone and it was only Pin, Gabby and Callum waiting for me.
"Where is she?" He asked.
"She's gone home" I said quietly leading Krieger back into his stall.
"Do you feel good now?" He asked.
"You're the one that lied!" I defended.
"Unlike you, I told her the truth!" I snapped.
"That's not the reason you told her and you know it!" He glared.
I grabbed the car keys from my pocket and rolled my eyes.
"Whatever Pin" I mumbled unlocking the SUV, the lights flashed and Gabby and Callum jumped into the car.
"You want to know why I chose her?" He asked. I looked back at him not responding.
"You're going to turn out just like your mother" he chuckled. My eyes widened at the words that just came out of his mouth.
"Shut up!" I warned him.
"Isn't that what you're most scared of?" He asked.
"Shut up!" I yelled. I watched him get in his car and speed down the driveway. Callum and Gabby watched me from inside the car. I took a deep breath in and moved to the drivers side of the car. Callum and I shared a glance but no words had to be shared. There was no need for a fake boyfriend now, but a part of me didn't want to stop pretending.

Hey guys.
I'd just like to say before I get hate for hating on Pin, I do love Pin but I really love Pin and Zoe together. I don't really know where I'm going to go with this so I'm going to take a small break just for a couple of days and work on some of my other stories and try and brainstorm and then there will be an update when I come up with some more ideas. Comment some things you might want to see in the story if you want.
Love you ❤️
