A knock on my door woke me from my sleep. I rolled over to see the clock flick from 4:59am to 5:00am. Maria opened the door not bothering to wait for a response from me.
"Up you get!" She encouraged.
"Get out!" I snapped throwing a pillow in her direction.
"You have a lesson in an hour" she reminded me tossing the pillow on the end of my bed.
"I'm not riding!" I growled.
"Come on" she called tossing clothes on the end of my end.
"King needs exercise" she reminded me.
"King?" I asked.
"King's in London?" I asked sitting up and looking at her.
"Of course" she nodded.
I did miss the bay. I missed a lot about Holloway but I really did miss King.
"Now up!" She demanded crossing her arms over her chest. I sighed and jumped out of bed.
I sat on the bed and pulled on my riding boots, the bedroom door opened and the smell of tea wafted in the room. Maria handed me a mug of tea and sat beside me.
"Your parents are trying" she reminded me.
"They kidnapped me!" I defended.
"Just trust me when I say they're doing the right thing" she said giving my hand a squeeze.
"Now hurry!" She clapped her hands together making me jump. I sighed and handed her back my still full cup of tea before making my way down the stairs.I pulled into the stables, the sweet smell of hay stung my nose. Stablehands hurried leading horses out to their riders while cleaning in between. In between all the chaos I spotted him, the dark bay who nickered in my direction and I couldn't help but smile.
"Hi King" I smiled hurrying towards him. The stable hand handed me a helmet and moved to the side of King waiting to help me mount.
I swung my leg over and sat comfortably in the saddle. I took a deep breath of air and smiled. The last few days had been agony, but being in a saddle made everything so much clearer.
"Jumps are ready in the indoor arena" the hand mumbled heading back into the stable to do another job.
"Come on King" I smiled giving him a judge with my boot. He responded quickly jumping at my touch and trotting excitedly outside. The large paddocks were nothing like back on the island, they all ended with a white picket fence forbidding the riders from going any further. King trotted along the fence line, his ears twitching with every sound of the insects among the grass. The large indoor arena came into view. The double story building was full of empty seats. The few seats that were occupied included my old team mates as well as my old coach. Ava smiled and waved sending a thumbs up my way.
"Whenever you're ready!" Grace sneered, her dark brown hair was tied in a low pony tail, a hair was never out of place.
I looked at the course, this was the exact course at regionals, the similar pot plants laid along the oxers. One jump caught my eye that hadn't been in the regionals course, a wall. It was made out of foam bricks that fell easily if barely touched, made to look like a brick wall. I didn't know the experience King had with walls. This would either go very well, or very, very badly._______________________
