After a long couple of weeks the team was starting to become a team again. Everyone avoided Brooklyn as a subject. Mrs Harris stopped being Brooklyn's mom and turned to Elliot's partner and the snack lady. She offered everyone a ride home, offered us a bed if we needed it, she became the teams mom. After losing her daughter I guess she needed something to numb the pain. I stopped being the guy who broke her daughters heart to the guy she regularly asked if they were eating enough.

As I arrived to the stables, I noticed one car missing, Mrs Harris's. She was usually at the stables an hour earlier then everyone else setting up for breakfast, she hadn't showed. This was the first time she had never showed since Brooklyn left. When I walked into the small riders room everyone fumbled with their hands and looked uncomfortable and worried.
"What if she left to?" Zoe asked.
"You think she would?" Ryder asked.
"Like mother like daughter" Callum shrugged.
"Stop this!" I grumbled.
"She could be ill okay, now start tacking up and getting ready for practice!" I ordered.
"Yes boss" Zoe rolled her eyes at me storming out of the small room. I only sighed and followed after her.
"What?" I asked following her down the hall to Raven's stall.
"Do you still have feelings for her?" She asked raising an eyebrow at me as she stroked Raven's neck.
"I'm always going to have feelings for her Zoe" I defended.
"Do you want to be with her Pin!" She raised her voice making a few stable hands turn and look at us.
"No!" I argued.
"I can't keep apologising for the same thing over and over, I love you Zoe and if you don't believe that then I guess we can't be together" I shrugged walking away. My heart ached, I didn't want to lose Zoe, she meant everything to me. She just didn't understand the way I loved Brooklyn, I had a different love for the both of them and I just didn't know how to explain it.

After a long day of dressage, I finally took a seat in my SUV. The smell of new leather wafted through my nose as I took a deep breath. The passenger door opened as I clicked my seat belt in. I looked towards Zoe, her hair was tied in a low pony tail and her big brown eyes were almost pleading.
"Drive me home?" She asked.
"Of course" I nodded.
"I think the one thing I hate the most is that I like her, she's nice and pretty and such a good rider" she started to say before I cut her off.
"Zoe, I don't love her like I love you" I told her.
"So you love her?" Zoe asked her voice sounded as if she was going to cry right there in front of me.
"Of course, I love her as a friend, we have history yes but I don't think about her like that, I miss her as a friend and I want her back" I defended.
"She's not coming back Pin" she sighed resting her head on the window.
"Yes she will" I nodded.
"How do you know?" She asked.
"Because I know her" I said before turning my gaze back to the road.

I spent the rest of the night writing and deleting messages to Brooklyn.
'You up?' Was one of them followed by
'Can we talk?'
But I didn't send either of them or the other one hundred others I had written.
My phone buzzed on my bed side table. It was 1:00am in the morning. I didn't recognise the number that was calling and I quickly answered it.
"Hello" I said sleepily.
"Pin, it's Elliot, Julia's collapsed and is in hospital, you should come see her, I know she'd appreciate it" Elliot stated.
"Yeah of course, I'll be there as soon as I can" I said hanging up my phone and jumping out of bed.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but I also couldn't believe that there was a strong chance that Julia's daughter wouldn't be by her bedside.
I hurried to the SUV only wearing track pants, sneakers and a v-neck army green shirt. The hospital was quiet, I was advised that no one was to see Mrs Harris until she rested. Hours passed and soon daylight was beginning to break over the horizon. A familiar SUV pulled into the parking lot and my heart stopped. She was here.

Brooklyn looked exhausted, her skin was pale and her eyes held bags I had never seen on her before, she had lost a lot of weight she looked unrecognisable.
When she stepped through the doors her gaze fell on me and I sat quietly staring back at her. I didn't want to seem surprised by her appearance, I knew it would end in an argument.
"Elliot told me you were coming" I lied.
"How are you?" I asked trying to make conversation.
"I'm tired" she sighed falling into the seat beside me.
"It was a long drive" I stated.
"I'm not talking about the drive Pin" she growled almost like she hated me not realising she wasn't okay. I didn't really concentrate on the conversation with Brooklyn after that, but the moment the doors opened and Callum and Ryder walked in, I knew it was going to end badly. Callum looked so hurt and angry. I had my guard up, no matter what I would protect Brooklyn, it was my job as her friend. Ryder was stone faced, not showing one bit of emotion to our old teammate. My eyes were only on Callum, the moment his fist tightened and he stepped closer I was out of my seat dragging him out of the lobby.
"Get off of me!" He yelled trying to pull out of my grasp, I didn't let him go until we stood at his car.
"Get a grip!" I growled at him.
"Do you honestly think I was going to hit her?" He spat.
"Like father like son!" I shot back without remorse. Callum took the hit and looked down at the ground.
"Go home" I told him. He nodded and stepped into his car.
He quickly started he engine and the last five words he said made my heart hurt for him.
"I'm in love with her"
It was hard not to fall in love with Brooklyn, she was one in a million. The perfect smile and hair, her eyes could mesmerise you forever. I fell in love with her and I knew a part of me would always be in love with her. But Ryder made her feel different, he challenged her, he fought her and he loved her too everyone could see their connection even Callum and that's what was hurting him the most.
A moment later the door open and Ryder walked quietly past me.
"You good?" I asked. He looked back at me, his eyes were clearly watery and he just nodded.
"I did what I had to" he mumbled under his breath before hurrying towards his car. I watched through the glass doors as Brooklyn wiped a few tears off of her cheek and hurried after the nurse to go and see her mom. 'Ryder What did you do?' I thought to myself.
