"I decided punishment is necessary"

Gabby and I didn't didn't speak much. A 'goodnight' or two was spoken but we remained quite silent after the drama that had been revealed that night. As we sat in complete silence each of us with a bowl of cereal in front of us.
"You have the respect from the team" she stated.
"Yeah, I'm sure training will be more comfortable now" I nodded.
"So are you going to talk to Callum?" She asked.
"Why do I have to talk to Callum?" I asked back raising an eyebrow.
"It's obvious he likes you, I just think you should talk to him about everything that's going on" she explained.
"We were fake dating that's it" I shrugged.
"It didn't seem fake" she mumbled quietly dumping her cereal bowl in the sink and running upstairs to grab her boots. After a quiet ride that seemed to go on forever Gabby and I finally pulled up to the stables. Krieger was being less outside by a stable hand. He was still wearing the cotton blanket from the night before.
"What's going on?" Gabby asked sporting her horse being lead out as well.
"Welcome girls!" James called with a smirk on his face.
All the horses in the stable were being lead into the arena and being tied to the fence.
"What's going on?" Callum asked.
"You see, the stables have cameras everywhere including on the cross country course and this morning when I came in, I found Kriegers tack dirty and messy by his stall door, it was not the way I left the stables last night so when I checked the cameras to find out you had your own little mini race off with bright fields I decided punishment is necessary" he explained.
"So you will all begin by shovelling manure, refilling the hay nets and water troughs and when that is done, I have more chores" he added.
"It's okay the win was worth it" Alex chuckled, Callum agreeing along side him.
"Do you girls feel the same way?" James asked.
"No" I mumbled quietly.
"Brooklyn!" Callum gasped as if I had just betrayed him.
"I don't believe it was worth it, my horse could have been seriously injured, I could've been!" I exclaimed.
"Pin could've been injured or his horse" I added.
"For what? For some bragging rights?" I asked.
"Let's just get to work" I growled grabbing the wheelbarrow from outside the stable that had a shovel sitting along side it and wheeling it in front of the first open door.
After finishing the manure, Gabby and I went to fill the hay nets while Callum and Alex refilled the water troughs.
"Can we talk?" Callum asked from the doorway.
"I'll go give Alex a hand" Gabby mumbled dropping the hay nets on the hay bale and heading out to find Alex.

"I don't think we have anything to talk about" I shrugged.
"Well I know we do have something to talk about" Callum mumbled.
"We kissed multiple times and I know it meant something to you" he shrugged.
"I don't know what you're talking about" I mumbled continuing to fill the hay net.
His hands fell onto my waist and in only a moment he had me facing him, his face was so close I could smell the mint on his breath.
"Please don't" I mumbled turning away unfazed by his charm. He stepped back, his eyes showed how hurt he was by the development.
"I have to go take this hay net out" I said quickly leaving the small space.
"You okay?" Gabby asked watching me flee from the room.
"Of course" I forced a tight lipped smile.

After a long day of cleaning the four of us were finally allowed to saddle up our horses and lead them to the jumping arena.
We all lined up against the fence of the arena.
"Now I hope you've all learnt your lesson, next time you want to do something stupid at least let me know beforehand" James chuckled.
"Our little winner is up first" James called looking at me. I mounted Krieger and tightened the reins. He gave a small snort as we trotted along the fence line of the course.Kriegers body was relaxed and free of tension as we cantered towards the first jump, he grinned his teeth at the bit wanting more rein but I refrained from giving him more head. As we finished the course I looked back at the 10 jumps that stood high and I let out a deep breath I didn't realise I was holding.
"Good job champ" James called.
