I woke early the next morning. My stomach grumbling for food. I pulled on my jodhpurs my favourite black hoodie and my favourite fluffy ug-boots and I made my way downstairs. I heard laughter and chatter coming from the kitchen as I entered. Sitting at the table was my mother along side Callum, Alex and Gabby.
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked pouring myself a glass of juice and taking a seat at the table.
"I thought it would be fun to have your friends over for breakfast" my mother shrugged making me a plate of warm golden waffles.
"Thanks mom" I smiled up at her before looking to my friends. Callum had a questioning look and I shook my head to answer his un spoken question.
"We should go" Callum stated standing from the table.
"We should?" Alex and Gabby both asked
"Yes we should, now let's go" he told them.
"Are you sure?" My mother asked.
"Thank you for breakfast" Callum smiled at my mother.
"I'll walk them out" I told her walking them to the front door.
"Thanks" I whispered to Callum as the other two piled into the car.
"I'll see you at practice" he smiled at me giving me a soft kiss on the cheek."I like your friends" my mother smiled at me as she piled the dishes into the dishwasher.
"You never like my friends" I stated.
"I never liked Pin" she corrected.
"I need to tell you something" I said hurriedly wanting to get the conversation over.
"Okay?" She asked.
"When Pin and I were in London we were around the city and.." I started but my throat stopped me.
"What is it Brooklyn?" She asked.
"I saw dad kissing another woman" I blurted. My mother's eyes glazed over and it was as if she was zoning out.
"I confronted him about it and he promised me it was a one time thug, I thought if he wouldn't do it again it was fine but then you told me and I'm so sorry mom" I cried a tear falling down my cheek.
"You knew and didn't tell me?" She asked.
"I'm so sorry!" I cried.
"I'm going to go upstairs, you can drive yourself to practice" she said quietly and calmly. She looked as if she was possessed, not looking anywhere but straight ahead.I pulled into the stables, riders crowded around the stable doors. I spotted Callum and Gabby in the crowd.
"What's going on?" I asked. Gabby only pointed. I pushed my way through the group of riders and stable hands. The wall read in red paint:
Watch ur back BROOKLYN!
My name was written in bold letters. I swallowed at the sight.
I looked around to see everyone looking at me. I knew if I seemed scared whoever wrote it would get exactly what they wanted. I forced a smile.
"The guy cant even spell" I shrugged looking back at the red paint.
"Alright get out of here!" James yelled over the crowd of whispers.
James pulled us into his office. Alex and Gabby looked down at the ground as if they were guilty.
"Do you two know who did this?" James asked. They shared a glance before Gabby let out a deep breath.
"We think it was Pin" Gabby admitted.
"Just leave it!" I exclaimed.
"Who cares" I shrugged.
"I'll sort it out myself" I mumbled heading towards Krieger's stall.
"Where exactly are you going?" James asked.
"To sort it out" I shrugged.
"I'll be back soon" I said tightening the girth on the saddle. I grabbed the helmet beside the stall and lead Krieger out of the stable.
"Be careful" Gabby added. A loud nicker came from behind us and there stood Callum with a tacked up horse.
"Let's go" he said.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"I'm not letting you go by yourself!" He argued.
"Fine, lets go" I sighed. As we rode through over the beach, sand was being kicked up by the hooves of our horses. The sand dunes seemed as if they went on forever. Krieger took them difficultly, he snorted and nickered as he galloped over them. Callum took the lead, leading me through small forest like woods, overlooking a small stable with only a few horses. It was nothing like Holloway.
"This is Brightfields?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"It's nothing" Callum chuckled. His voice was dark, his eyes were cold and his knuckles were going white from how tight he was holding the reins.
"Come on" I said nodding towards the stable. The small stable was nothing, a few sheds put together but no stable hands, a small arena with jumps that were barely holding themselves together. The wooden fences looked as if a strong enough wind could blow them right over.
"What are you doing here!" Mia screeched stomping her foot on the ground and crossing her arms over her chest.
"Where the hell is Pin!" I glared at her.
"I'm here" Pin called coming out from a small office. I took long strides towards him and I felt so much more anger over everything not just the graffiti. My hand found itself across his face. Everyone stood silent watching the scene unfold.
"Next time you threaten me, grow a pair and do it to my face, you coward!" I mumbled through gritted teeth. His jaw clenched and he grabbed my hand and pulled it closer until it was against his hard chest.
"Next time you accuse me of something, have proof" he whispered in my ear.
"I don't need proof to see how pathetic you are" I snapped pulling my wrist from his grip.
"You were not worth what I went through" I added stepping away from him. I mounted Krieger and turned back to the pathetic team.
"You want a war? You got one, you're going down at regionals" I glared at them.
