2 weeks later
I mounted Krieger and lead him out onto the cross country course. I eyed the first few jumps, the course had been changed since last time. There were tighter corners, higher jumps and the complexity of it had gotten a lot higher. James has even made a small creek in the woods to copy the one that would be at regionals.
Krieger broke off into a gallop, taking the first three jumps as if they were nothing, the climb of the hill decended as we found ourself in the woods. The small creek of water was flowing towards the ocean, a small long jump was placed in the middle, making it slippery and dangerous if the horse and rider weren't careful. Krieger took two steps into the water before leaping over the jump, landing on the other side of the jump, water splashed over my face. The course looked back towards the stables, the last few jumps were double oxers something Krieger leaped over like they were nothing.
"You just bet your PB!" James smiled.
"It's on Harris" Callum chuckled. I patted Kriegers neck and dismounted waiting for Callum to return from the course. After a few minutes I began to get worried.
"Where is he?" I asked looking towards James.
"Give him another minute" James said calmly. The wind began to pick up sending a chill down everyone's spines.
"Okay guys, go look for him" James ordered us.

Gabby, Alex and I mounted our horses. Once we reached he opening of the woods we split up into the three different directions. A shuffle in the trees made me grip the reins tighter from nerves. When a familiar white coat stood out amongst the branches.
"Guys come back!" I called to Alex and Gabby who hadn't gone off too far. I dismounted and collected the reins to Callum's horse who was snorting and seemed in distress. Gabby and Alex search the area for any signs of Callum while I walked the horses back to the stable.
"I have to call his parents" James sighed.
"Let me do it" I offered.
"Are you sure?" James asked.
"Yeah" I nodded grabbing my car keys from the tack room. Two stable hands took the horses to cool down and untack.
As I got in the car my phone began to ring. I jumped for it, the caller ID read Mom.
"Hey Mom" I said turning the car engine on.
"Where are you?" She asked. I couldn't tell her about Callum, she had enough to worry about.
"I'm at the stables why?" I asked.
"I wanted to see if you wanted to come home for lunch" she said her voice was cheery.
"I can't today mom, but I'll see you when I get home" I said quickly hanging up the phone.

As Callum's large mansion like home came into view, I couldn't help but think back to the night we kissed, when we became something. I stepped onto the front porch and looked at the door. After a big deep breath and a few reassuring thoughts I pressed the doorbell. Callum's mother greeted me at the door with a smile and a warm hug.
"Brooklyn, it's so nice to see you again" she smiled.
"I wish it was on better circumstances" I mumbled.
"Can I speak to you and Callum's father please?" I asked.
"Of course, come in dear" she smiled pulling me into the house. She lead me into the living room and disappeared to fetch Callum's father.
"Richard come on!" She yelled. After a few minutes Callum's father made his way into the room and the couple sat across from me.
"What's this about?" Callum's father asked his eyebrows furrowed.
"Callum's missing" I said trying to hold in the tears.
"What?" His mother gasped.
"We found his horse, but Callum's gone and we have people looking everywhere for him" I explained.
"I need to get back and help but if you have any further questions James is happy to answer them" I explained.
"Thank you Brooklyn" Callum's mother nodded wiping the few tears away.
"If there's anything I can do" I started before I was cut off by Callum's father.
"You can find your way to the door, can you not?" He asked his eyes were cold and harsh.
"Of course" I nodded hurrying out of the house and back to the car.

When I arrived back to the stable. Everyone was gone, horses were missing from the stable and so was a lot of the tack. Everyone was looking for Callum. I racked up Krieger. He didn't tug on the reins or snort as I did up the girth, he just stood quietly making soft breathing sounds. He knew something was wrong. As I mounted him a blue sports car pulled into the driveway. The engine was cut off and Piper stepped out of the car. She was dressed in a black hoodie, riding jodhpurs and black riding boots.
"Give me a horse" she called to me. I nodded and dismounted.
As I began to saddle Callum's horse up for Piper she smiled and gave him a pat.
"I don't think your dad likes me very much" I mumbled tightening the girth.
"He acknowledges you, trust me he likes you" she gave me a comforting smile.
"Do you like my brother?" She asked.
"We're dating aren't we?" I asked as I tightened the white boots.
"Callum told me about Pin" she stated.
"I love Pin, I like your brother, it's complicated" I mumbled.
"Only if you make it complicated" she corrected me.
"Callum really likes you Brooklyn, that's very rare for Callum, don't hurt him" she said leading Callum's horse out of the stable to mount. I followed her and mounted Krieger.
"I didn't know you ride" I said trying to change the subject.
"Who do you think taught Callum" she smiled. She took off in a gallop Krieger and I following close behind.
