After surrounding ourselves in the stables, the steal beams shook at the harsh winds. Brooklyn, Ryder and Callum were still gone and I was beginning to worry. I knew Brooklyn would be okay but with two guys that were completely in love with her, it wouldn't end well.
"Where are they!" James yelled pacing back and forth down the hall.
"As soon as it's clear, everyone is going out there looking for them!" He demanded.
I sat huddled up beside Zoe, she was tired and scared. We were both worried about our team members that weren't there. I knew the question she was wandering, what everyone was wandering.
'What if we don't find them?'
Brooklyn meant everything to me, she gave me experiences I wouldn't have ever believed I could've done. As much as I loved Zoe, Brooklyn was something else, she was a best friend, she gave me memories I hope I never forget. I was determined to find her.

The storm finally passed and we all saddled up. The mud was thick and heavy as we all trotted out into the field and through the cross country course. It didn't take long before we reached a barrier. The creek had flooded and was now a strong hush of water that overflowed. None of our horses would be able to get through it. One wrong step and the horse and rider could drown in minutes.
"Brooklyn!" James screamed from the bank. The woods were screaming from the wind, and I couldn't hear myself think.
"Where would she go?" James asked turning to me.
"The beach, it would be the fastest way to be found" I explained.
"We can't get through to the other side!" Mia exclaimed.
"If we go upstream the current won't be as strong, we could use sand bags to block out the current" James explained.
"It won't hold for long but if we can get one rider through the water with enough supplies until the current is gone, they're going to be okay" he added.
"I'll go" I nodded.
"We'll both go" Gabby interrupted.
"You won't be able to hold enough supplies for the three of them, you'll need a hand" she explained.
"Fine, you two head upstream, find a good enough spot the pass through, the rest of us will head back to get supplies" James ordered.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked as I walked alongside Gabby.
"The same reason you are, we both care about the people on the side" she shrugged.
"Not in the same way though" Gabby shrugged.
"I don't love Brooklyn like that" I defended.
"Are you sure about that?" She asked raising an eyebrow.
"I love Zoe!" I exclaimed.
"That's not what I asked Pin" she rolled her eyes. Her horse began to trot ahead leaving me behind thinking about everything.

I finally spotted Gabby, she was standing on the bank with her arms crossed over her chest.
"You took your time" she rolled her eyes.
Two SUV's pulled up thirty metres away from us, at the edge of the woods. James stepped out of the dirt SUV along with Mia, Becky and Zoe as they lugged bags towards us. In the second SUV Julia and Elliot stepped out of the car. Julia was in tears, her eyes red and puffy, devastated by the news of her daughter.
"Pin!" She called when she spotted me running towards me while Elliot helped with the sand bags.
"Are you going to find her?" She asked. I dismounted and handed my reins to Gabby.
"Yes Mrs Harris I am" I nodded.
"Tell her I love her when you find her!" She begged.
"I will" I nodded. She pulled me into a hug.
"Come on Julia, we'll go wait at Holloway" Elliot encourager pulling the fragile lady away. After loading backpacks and saddlebags onto our horses.
Gabby and I sat on our horses at the edge of the bank, their hooves were a few centimetres deep into the water. Elvis snorted at the cold water but was still determined to follow my instructions.
Stablehands piled the bank and began to place the sandbags along the water on both sides of us, if we were to fall into the water the sand bags would prevent us from falling into the current and going down the stream.
"Go!" James yelled as the last sandbag was placed in the water.
Gabby and I struggled to get our horses through the mud, it stuck to their hooves and was thick along the water.
"Come on Elvis" I whispered to him, he jumped onto the bank, happy to finally be on the other side.
"Go find them!" James yelled from the other side of the bank. Gabby was close behind as I galloped through the woods and into the beach.

After an hour of walking along the beach, Gabby finally sighed.
"There's no use, the beach is completely abandoned" Gabby grumbled.
It took for a moment before it clicked in my mind.
"Exactly!" I smiled at her. She gave me a questioning look.
"Where's the boat house?" I asked.
"Just over the hill" she said pointing into the distance where a large sand dune like hill sat. I could make out a small wooden structure sitting on top.
After a short gallop towards the small boat house I spotted two bay horses and a grey tied up outside.
"Brooklyn!" Gabby yelled sliding off of her horses back and handing me the reins. She ran into the small building and I heard a squeal erupt from the room.

After tying the horses along side the other three, I pulled a couple of bags off and entered the small wooden room. I looked towards Brooklyn, she had mud across her clothes and a small gash that had dried a while ago on her forehead. Brooklyn engulfed me into a hug. I dropped the bags onto the floor beside us and hugged her back. I tucked my chin into the crook of her neck, her natural honey scent was still strong.
"The storm took out cell service so everybody's waiting for us to get back to the river" I explained.
"Brooklyn are you okay?" Gabby asked. I looked Brooklyn over, her skin was pale, her lips were quivering from the weather and her whole body began shaking.
"It's just really cold" she shuddered pulling her jacket closer to her. I placed the back of my hand to her forehead.
"You're burning up" I stated.
"Brooklyn you're sick, there's no way you're going anywhere" Gabby said pulling out a sleeping bag and a small blanket.
"I'll stay and look after her, the three of you go and let James know we're fine" Gabby told us, her glare told us not to argue with her. Ryder, Callum and I nodded and headed for our horses.

The ride back to the river was quiet. Nobody said anything. Tension was rising between Callum and Ryder.
"Does Holloway have a lot of damage from the storm?" Ryder asked trying to make conversation.
"No damage, just messy" I shrugged.
"Is James mad at us?" Callum asked.
"He doesn't know about the deal, the three of you were just getting in extra practice" I shot them both a tight lipped smile.
"Thanks Pin" Ryder sent a smile back. Callum just rolled his eyes and kept his eyes on the trail along the beach. The skies were full of grey clouds and it looked as if it were going to rain all over again.
"We've got to hurry!" I called as I kicked Elvis into a gallop.
We raced across the beach and through the woods. Our horses were panting and sweating when we finally arrived. James sat on the bank across from the creek. He just stared into the water.
"Pin!" Mia called making everyone look up to us. Zoe let out a breaths and shot me a small smile which I kindly returned.
"Brooklyn's sick" Ryder called.
"Gabby's looking after her back at the boat house" Callum added.
"How sick?" A worried and shaky voice called from the trees, out stepped Elliot with an emotional Julia Harris.
"A fever, but she'll be okay" I reassured her.
"Back up!" James called. A black box sat in his hand and the three of us shared a worried glance. We lead our horses out of the way and stood across the bank.
"Don't drop it!" James warned. After Mia counted to three James launched the small box towards us . We all jumped forward ready to catch it. Callum was too close standing on the edge of the bank, Ryder was too far standing by the opening of the woods that lead back towards the beach. I stood in between them my hands open to catch it. After a heart wrenching few seconds the box finally found its way into my hands and I flashed my hands around it.
Callum and Ryder both groaned in disappointment wanting to catch it. The small box was a walker talkie, it was already on and the channel was set.
"Testing one, two" Becky giggled into the Walkie talkie on the other side, the static filled the air around us.
"Hi becky" I mumbled into the walkie talkie.

After promising Mrs Harris the first moment we got back to the boat house we would give her a chance to talk to Brooklyn we rode back in silence. When we finally got back to camp, Gabby had started a fire outside to help keep us warm she stabbed at the ashes of the logs of wood a frown spread across her face.
"What's the matter?" Callum asked.
"Leave it alone Callum!" She barked. I spotted Brooklyn through the window as she wiped away a tear. Her face was still pale.
"What happened?" I asked taking a seat beside her after tying Elvis up.
"Leave it Pin" she said quietly her voice barely a whisper.
"I'm here when you're ready to talk" I said softly. I felt her head nod against my shoulder as she began to doze off into a dream.
'Sweet dreams Brooklyn' I thought to myself.
