"I ended things with her." I tell Kyler.

"You did? Really?" He asks, completely uninterested.

"Yeah, I did." I say.

"I don't fucking believe you." He laughs.

"I did!" I defend myself.

"Okay, so you're telling me that you actually looked her in the face while she was there and said that you were breaking up with her?" He asks again.

"I mean, not exactly." I groan.

"So what, you just put yourself on a break or something?" He asks. He already fucking knows this is exactly what happened.

"I mean, yeah..." I say, trailing off a bit.

"So you didn't really break up with her." He adds.

"That is breaking up with her!" I defend.

"No it isn't. A break is a half ass breakup. You take a break when you want to go and fuck around with someone new for a little bit, but don't want the other person doing anything shady. The person who calls for the break is always the one who wants to fuck around, too." He laughs.

"That isn't completely true."

"Okay, but it's true for the most part." He adds.

I guess in a way he's right. Actually, he's absolutely right.

"You took a break from Megan for awhile! Like, back in college!" I say, trying to defend myself. Sadly, it isn't worth it.

"Yeah I did. You should also remember that I literally cried all night and begged for her to take me back instead of going to that party. She told me I was a dick and then made me work for her all over again. I didn't want to fuck around with anyone else because I loved Megan. I knew right then that I did. The thought of being with someone else was just...gross." He says.

I remember when he tried taking a break from Megan. Of course, it didn't really work at all. He was going to just have one last night as a free guy. He just wanted to have fun. So, he told her that they needed to go on a break because he wasn't sure about his feelings.

He didn't even make it to the party without breaking down. He didn't even try, though. He knew he made a mistake the second she started crying to me. He knew he made a mistake when she asked if it was her that did something wrong. He knew he made a mistake when he saw how heartbroken she was already.

He asked to get back together with her that same night, but she declined. She told him that she didn't trust him. She told him that she didn't have the energy to go back to him and get hurt again. She didn't want to be with him, but she didn't want to lose him, either. She was just as confused as he was.

He worked harder and harder every single day. Finally, Megan took him back. Turns out, she was just as miserable without him as he was without her.

"I remember." I mumble.

"I know you're only doing this so you can fuck Candace guilt-free." He accuses, which he's right about. He's completely right about all of this.

"That isn't true."

"Bullshit. Look, fuck Candace if you want to. I support that shit. I love Candace, you know that. You love her, too. You just keep trying to fight the fact that you two were brought back together for a reason. This is fucking fate, dude. Don't neglect fate."

Fate. Could this actually be fate? Do I even believe in fate?

"What about Melissa?"

"Kick her to the curb, man. She's only bringing you down. You don't need that shit. Plus, I really think that you and Candace could fix things. I mean, yeah...it would kind of suck given the living arrangements but...I don't know. I just think you guys need to have one final fight about everything that happened and then move the fuck on." He says.
