"Dinner is ready!" I yell loudly, not even sure the girls can hear me over their bickering.

"Dad!" Phoebe screams from the top of the stairs. Seconds later, I hear her stomping down the stairs.

"Daddy!" Sophie calls out immediately after. I hear her little feet doing their best to stomp right after her older sister.

"Lord, please grant me some peace and quiet." I pray, mumbling to myself quietly.

"Daddy!" Sophie yells louder.

"Dad!" Phoebe yells over her.

"What on Earth could you two possibly be yelling at?" I yell over the two of them.

"Daddy, Phoebe won't take me and Casey to the water park!" My ten year old daughter says, crossing her little arms across her chest.

"Phoebe." I warn, giving my oldest daughter a stern look.

"But Dad! She wants to go today! I have plans!" She groans, crossing her arms across her chest as well. In this moment , as both of my girls pout about this small problem, they look completely identical.

"What plans do you have?" I ask, not knowing of any plans she has made. I'm not strict when it comes to where my daughter goes. Really, I'm not. I just want to know about it.

When Candace and I got married and had Sophie, we had to start to set some rules when it came to our kids. The one and only rule we set was honesty. All we want is honesty. If our girls are honest with us, and we are honest with each other, then everything else falls into place.

"She has a date with Trey Gibson." Sophie says in a mocking tone.

"Soph!" Phoebe yells, rolling her eyes at her sister who just threw her under the bus.

"Trey Gibson? Care to share this information? Or when you were planning on telling me about this date?" I ask my daughter. Lord, she is beyond beautiful. I'm not an idiot. I know she is going to start dating. Multiple people have addressed their interest in her, but she usually denies them. She's going to start dating sooner or later. The idea fucking terrifies me.

"Dad, it's just a movie." Phoebe shrugs.

"I don't care. You know the rules, Phoebe. They haven't changed. Honesty. If you want this freedom you think you're old enough for, then you have to cooperate with me." I remind her, earning an eye roll.

"Okay, fine." She huffs, uncrossing her arms and admitting the information she tried hiding. "Trey is just...a friend from school. He's my partner in our leadership class."

"So, he's a friend? Or is he a...friend." I ask, cocking my brow with a chuckle.

"He's a friend. But, he mentioned his interest in me and...I don't know. I feel like I should give him a chance? I just don't want anyone to know about it." She sighs.

"Why wouldn't you want anyone to know?" I ask, genuinely interested in her answer.

"Because he's like...kind of a nerd. All he does is read or do homework. I mean, he's super smart. That's nice and all, but we are just so...different. He doesn't really talk to anyone at all. Only to me and like, maybe one other person. He just...I don't know. I have grown up with all of these people. He has always been the nerdy guy at school. He has never had a girlfriend in his entire life. And all of a sudden he wants to just start dating the cheerleading captain? It will be weird if anyone found out about it." She admits.

"Phoebe, who cares if he likes to read and do homework? Who cares if you two are different? He sounds great. I'm sure he took interest because you are one of a kind, and you are nice to everyone. It doesn't matter that you're the cheerleading captain. I'm not going to let my daughter become one of those stuck up kids who think they're better just because they dance for their high school squad. Remember that, Phoebe. You are all equal there. He sees something beyond your title or social standing, whatever that may be. He sees you. I like him already." I laugh, loving the fact that this guy is probably a virgin and isn't trying to just fuck my daughter.
