For the past 100 years, Zelda was trying her best to hold back Calamity Ganon's power. And finally after all this time, she was set free. It was all thanks to the Hylian Champion she knew so well. He had some help from someone who he claims is his assistant, earning the thanks of the princess.
After visiting Zora's Domain to let the Zora king have some closure, Link and Zelda were on their way back to the castle.
All this time, Link had the Sheikah Slate for his long adventure to save Hyrule. He had ended up giving it back to Zelda, even though he had gotten quite used to it.
So much has happened. So many losses, so much tragedy. So much bloodshed. Gaining back his memories little by little throughout his adventure made him wish that he had never gotten them back. It was too painful to remember all of the things that had happened.
The lost of his friends. The champions, his childhood friends, everyone. But Link knew that this day forward, he must keep moving forward to keep Hyrule's legacy alive. With Zelda.
Link turned towards Zelda who was consumed with the Sheikah Slate. He was still trying to process that she was really here. A smile appeared on his face.
Zelda felt like she was being watched as she turned to Link. "What is it, Link?"
Link sighed through his nose. "I'm just... So happy that you're actually here."
Zelda smiled back. "I'm happy to be back. It's been over a century. Hard to believe."
"I know! You haven't aged a day! Still beautiful as ever!"
A slight blush appeared on Zelda's face. "You flatter me so, Link."
Arriving in front of the castle, the two looked up to the run down castle that was their childhood home. They made so memories there, the two of them were always together as a princess and knight. And now they're together as a princess and the Hylian Champion.
Zelda let out a sigh. "This place needs a ton of renovation on it."
Link nodded. "I agree with that. I feel like once we restore the castle, everything else will fall into place."
Zelda nodded. "I believe so as well. I feel like once the people see that the princess has returned, they will all do their best to help us restore Hyrule."
"And I'll be right by your side the entire time."
Zelda giggled. "I know. You've always been by my side ever since we were children."
Link rubbed the back of his head. "I know! That's crazy, huh?" A slight blush appeared on his face, now looking somewhat shy. "So... Do you remember that time when we... You know..?"
Zelda looked like she knew what he was talking about as her blush deepened. "Yes. I remember. On that day when Calamity Ganon appeared, we confessed our love to each other." She paused for a moment. "And shared our first kiss."
"Yeah... And after that, things went downhill. But what I'm trying to say is... Do you... Still feel like that towards me?"
Zelda just blinked at him. She took him by the hand, smiling softly. "My feelings never changed since that day. I still love you very much, Link. In fact... I think my love for you has deepened even more."
Link never felt more happy in his life. "I'm so in love with you, Zelda. When I got my memories back, I couldn't stop crying. It was a good thing I was alone or else Kagami would've had me tell my whole life story to her."
"Your so called assistant?" Zelda giggled. "But I'm glad that your feelings haven't changed either."
"Of course they wouldn't change! I meant every word I said that day!"
Zelda felt her heart racing from Link's serious gaze. "I'm so happy..."
Not expecting it, Link pulled Zelda close to him, slightly lifting her up in the air. He smiled fondly while looking up to her as he brought her close to him, both sharing a kiss.
The two were sharing a kiss in front of the castle as they slowly separated. Link put Zelda down, staring into her eyes. "I missed you so much..."
Zelda looked at him in awe, her eyes wavering. "I missed you so much too, Link..."
"Zelda..." Link put his hand behind his head. "I know this is an inappropriate time to do this..." He felt a sense of deja vu. "But... I really want to do this even though I don't have it with me right now."
Zelda arched an eyebrow. "Have what?"
Link let out a sigh. "You'll see what I mean in a second." He walked closer to her, grabbing a hold of both of her hands.
Zelda's eyes widen as she saw Link bending down on one knee. "Link... What are you doing?"
Link had his serious face on. "Zelda... I've been in love with you ever since we were children. We went through so many things together. We were always there for each other. I was always so scared to ruin our friendship since I thought you didn't feel the same way about me. But since now I know how you feel, I feel like I'm not scared to ask you this very important question. I love you from the bottom of my heart, Zelda. Will you marry me?"
Zelda felt like her heart was flying, almost like she was on cloud nine. Tears wielded up in her, slowly nodding with a smile. "Yes! Of course I'll marry you!"
Link smiled brightly as he scooped her up in his arms. Spinning around with joy, he stopped and stared into her eyes, leaning his face close to hers. The two shared a kiss once more, celebrating their engagement together.
Though it would still be a while until they can actually marry, Link and Zelda would have to fix up the castle and restore Hyrule first before anything else. It was their main priority. They didn't mind the wait, as long as the people were happy and safe from any harm.
